April 15, 1925-June 6, 2008 Russell G. Hagen, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Russell Gordon Hagen was born to Ole and Inga (Walden) Hagen on April 15, 1925 in Detroit Lakes, where he grew up and received his education. After graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1943, he entered the Army and following basic training, he played the clarinet with the Army Band at Fort Jackson, S.C. After his military service, he returned to Detroit Lakes and attended business college.
May 4, 1945-June 9, 2008 Loren G. Sharp, 63, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, June 9, 2008 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, after suffering a 20-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Loren Gordon Sharp was born to Gordon and Mae Ann (Listul) Sharp on May 4, 1945 in Breckenridge. He spent his entire life in the Lake Park-Detroit Lakes area, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1964. He married Jean Panter on June 25, 1965 in Detroit Lakes, and they made their home on Lake Melissa.
Nov. 1, 1926-June 5, 2008 Berton W. Smith, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo. Berton W. Smith was born to Waldo and Rose (Redman) Smith on Nov. 1, 1926 in Lake Park. He grew up and attended country schools in Lake Park and Detroit Lakes. Following his education, he worked on the family farm near Callaway. On June 12, 1949 he married Betty Johnson at Richwood Lutheran Church. Over the years, Berton farmed and then worked for Peters Meat Products, Seaberg Oil Co., and Ferrellgas, all of Detroit Lakes.

Dec. 15, 1941-May 25, 2008 Ronald L. Brown, 66, of White Earth, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley, Minn. Ronald Lee Brown was born to Augustus Jeremiah and Mabel Flora (Leaf) Brown on Dec. 15, 1941 at the White Earth Hospital. He came from a large family with a Christian legacy spanning four generations. Ron was raised with his family in the White Earth area and attended school near there. As a young man, he moved to Minneapolis and began working various jobs. He spent many years in the painting profession in the Minneapolis area.
April 8, 1939-June 5, 2008 James A. "Jim" Martin, 69, of rural Vergas, died suddenly, but peacefully, at his home on Sybil Lake on Thursday, June 5, 2008. James Albert Martin was born to Herbert and Helen (Bannach) Martin on April 8, 1939, in Devils Lake, N.D., and graduated from high school in Egeland, N.D. Jim entered the U.S. Army in September 1957, and was stationed in Germany until his discharge in September 1959. Jim worked for the North Dakota Highway Department and then moved to Fargo in 1961.
Feb. 26, 1928-June 1, 2008 Dolores M. "Bodie" Geer, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her home. Dolores Mary Boedigheimer was born to Hugo and Josephine (Krueger) Boedigheimer on Feb. 26, 1928 in Perham, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Perham High School in 1946. Prior to her marriage, Dolores was a telephone operator at Tacoma, Wash., and Detroit Lakes. She married Lennis Geer June 1, 1950 in Perham. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where they raised their family.
March 20, 1930-June 3, 2008 Harriet Bassett Price, 78, of Pelican Rapids, died peacefully in Mulvane, Kansas, on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Harriet was born to Clarke D. and Marjorie (Milligan) Bassett on March 20, 1930, in Aberdeen, S.D. She grew up in Fargo and attended Fargo Central High School for two years, then graduated from St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minn., in 1948. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and graduated in 1952. Harriet married Edwin Lysle Price on Feb.
Eileen O. Hendrickx, 79, of Butler, Minn., died at her home on Friday, June 6, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Butler. Visitation will resume for one hour prior to Monday's funeral at the church. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills, Minn.
Dec. 13, 1944-May 20, 2008 Roger L. Watson, 63, of Clara City, Minn., passed away on Monday, May 20, 2008 at the Clara City Care Center, surrounded by his family. Roger Lloyd Watson, son of Marlyn and Evelyn (Bouchard) Watson, was born Dec. 13, 1944 in Duluth, Minn., where he grew up and received his education. At the age of 17, Roger enlisted in the United States Army. He ended up serving in the Army, Air Force and National Guard throughout his career in the military.
