April 14, 1945-Dec. 17, 2008 Former Warren, Minn., resident Dennis Vesey, 63, of Detroit Lakesdied on Wednesday morning, Dec. 17, 2008 at his home, with his family by his side. Dennis Warren Vesey was born the son of Leverne and Marian (Hallan) Vesey on April 14, 1945 in Hallock, Minn. He lived with his family in Donaldson, Minn., until moving to Stephen, Minn., in 1952. He graduated from Stephen High School in 1963. After graduation, Dennis moved to Warren and worked in the telephone industry for 32 years.
Jan. 10, 1921-Dec. 16, 2008 Helen M. Renner, 87, a retired teacher and longtime Rochester resident, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Helen was born Jan. 10, 1921 in Perham, and lived on the family farm near Perham until graduating from high school in 1938. She attended St. Cloud State Teachers' College until 1940, and from 1940-42 taught in a district school near St. Cloud while training student teachers from the college.
Oct. 13, 1920-Dec. 17, 2008 Helen M. Hunt, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Helen M. Harrington was born to Charles and Lucille (Collette) Harrington on Oct. 13, 1920 in Frazee. She grew up near Frazee, and attended country school in rural Frazee and Detroit Lakes. On Dec. 3, 1939 she married Clair Sharp in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Excelsior, Minn. In 1962, they moved to California. On March 3, 1973 Helen married Stanley Hunt, Jr. in California. They lived there until moving back to Detroit Lakes in 1986.
Oct. 20, 1918-Dec. 17, 2008 Former Cando and Egeland, N.D., resident Dolores C. Lockhart, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Dolores Cathryn Gau was born the oldest daughter of George and Molly (Fernholz) Gau on October 20, 1918, at Devils Lake, N.D. She grew up in the Egeland community, where she attended rural grade school and graduated from Egeland High School. Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Albert Lockhart, on Dec. 10, 1940 at Cando and the couple had one daughter, Pamela.
Nov. 12, 1925-Dec. 17, 2008 Georgianna Sandberg, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Georgianna was born the daughter of Arthur and Angeline (Trottochaud) Vizenor on Nov. 12, 1925 in Richwood, where she was raised and educated. After her schooling, she worked as a nurse at the sanitarium in Walker, Minn. Georgianna married John Sandberg on Dec. 30, 1946 in Detroit Lakes, where they made their home. Together they owned and operated Johnny's Wayside Inn for many years. They also were in the wild rice business for 20 years.
Bernard Nugent, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Sept. 4, 1917-Dec. 17, 2008 Gemma R. Meyer, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, under Care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Gemma Rose Young was born to Joseph and Mary (Tibodeau) Young on Sept. 4, 1917 in Perham. She attended public school in Ogema before graduating from Waubun High School in 1935. Gemma married George Meyer on Sept. 4, 1941 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema. George was a carpenter, while Gemma started working at the Erie 34 Club in Detroit Lakes before later going to work at Erie Jr.
Dec. 9, 1953-Dec. 9, 2008 Douglas P. Lund, 55, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at his home. Douglas Paul Lund was born to Albert "Prince" and Helen (Jensen) Lund on Dec. 9, 1953 in Fosston, Minn. He was a 1972 graduate of Fosston High School. Following graduation, he attended the Bemidji (MN) Area Vocational Technical College auto mechanics course. He worked for Francis Peterson Motors and later for Muscatell Auto, both in Moorhead. Doug loved to go fishing, working on cars and being with his friends.
June 1, 1945-Dec. 11, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Mervin K. Sprouls, 63, of Dilworth, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Mervin Keith Sprouls was born to Lester and Inez (Faulk) Sprouls on June 1, 1945 in Alexandria, Minn. He received his early education in Barrett, Minn., and later moved with his family to Detroit Lakes, where he graduated from high school. He served with the U.S. Army and following his discharge, he attended the Wadena Vocational-Technical College Auto Mechanics Program.
Sept. 7, 1921-Dec. 14, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Marion E. Larson, 87, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls. Marion Eleanor Haglund, daughter of Charles Haglund Sr. and Mabel (Oslund) Haglund, was born Sept. 7, 1921 in St. Paul, where she grew up. Marion married Gordon C. Larson on Feb. 9, 1946 in St. Paul. They lived in Torrington and Buffalo, Wyo., Jamestown and Fargo, N.D., and Detroit Lakes before moving to Sioux Falls. Marion was a member of St.
