June 26, 1939-May 7, 2011 James A. Walberg, 71, of Rochert died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. James Allen Walberg was born to Robert and Lena (Moser) Walberg on June 26, 1939 in rural Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended country school in Richwood Township, and later attended Detroit Lakes High School, graduating in 1957. On October 18, 1958 James was united in marriage to Donna Gandrud. They made their home in Rolling Meadows, Ill., where Jim began his trucking career.
Nov. 1, 1926-May 6, 2011 Gunder R. Hanson, 84, of Detroit Lakes died Friday, May 6, 2011 at St. Mary's Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Gunder Robert Hanson, the son of Gilbert and Julia Hanson, was born on November 1, 1926 on the Hanson farm in Hickory Township, Minn. Gunder was the youngest of seven siblings, which included brothers and sisters Herman, Goodwin, Alma, Alfred, Mildred and Norman. Gunder attended elementary school at the Solberg School, a single room schoolhouse, for eight years and attended Goodrich High School for three years.
Dec. 29, 1963-Jan. 7, 2011 Ronald D. Henderson, 47, of Audubon, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, White Earth. Ronald Dean Henderson was born to Marion and Carol (Rindall) Henderson on December 29, 1963 in Salem, Ore. He moved to Oklahoma as a young boy and to Minnesota at the age of 11.
April 6, 1952-May 2, 2011 Christine Ann "Chris" Feldt, 59, of the Wolf Lake area, entered eternity in the early morning hours of Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Sanford Health Center in Fargo, with her loved ones at her side. Chris was born on April 6, 1952 in Seattle, Wash. She endured a difficult childhood and moved from foster home to foster home until she found love, protection and security from a couple who farmed near Wolf Lake named Howard and Lila Peterson.
Sept. 7, 1941-April 30, 2011 Former Detroit Lakes resident Karen Isabel Newton, 69, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Karen was born September 7, 1941 to Arthur and Isabel (Howey) Jensen in Lisbon, N.D. She attended school in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School. In 1959 she married Harry Leslie Newton at the First Methodist Church in Lisbon. Shortly thereafter they moved to Fargo, and remained there for two years while her husband attended NDSU to complete degree in pharmacy and welcoming the birth of their first child.
Jan. 16, 1932-April 29, 2011 Karl A. Dyre, 79, a longtime resident of Park Rapids and longtime owner/operator of the Evergreen Lodge Resort on Big Sand Lake, passed away unexpectedly while working at the resort on Friday, April 29, 2011. Karl was born to Oscar and Nelda (Hoehne) Dyre on January 16, 1932 in Greenwood, Wis. In the 1940s, his family moved to Detroit Lakes, where Karl graduated from Detroit Lakes Public High School with the Class of 1950.
Former Cummings, N.D., resident Glenda Smith, 68, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at The Cottages at Emmanuel, Detroit Lakes. Arrangements are being provided by Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro, N.D.
Jan. 18, 1921-April 30, 2011 Theresa M. Bergh, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Theresa Marie Bergh was born to Knute and Matilda (Opdahl) Dovre on January 18, 1921 in rural Detroit Lakes. She grew up on the family farm on Little Floyd Lake and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College for two years, and received her teaching certificate. On August 24, 1944 Theresa was united in marriage to Melvin Bergh in Detroit Lakes.
A burial service for former Cormorant resident Norma P. Coleman, 95, of Blackduck, Minn., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, in First Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon. She died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Essential Health-St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes.
Nov. 16, 1936-April 29, 2011 Kermit Milo Skogen passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, with his wife Beverly by his side at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Kermit most enjoyed his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. Some of his favorite ways to spend time included playing cards, tinkering in the garage, volunteering at First Lutheran Church, traveling with his wife to see family, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kermit devoted his life to his family and helping others.
