Sebaston Aarion Bevins, infant son of Jennifer Oppegard and Samuel Bevins, both of Naytahwaush, Minn., died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Mahnomen Health Center in Mahnomen. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, with the wake on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 10 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, all in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Naytahwaush, Interment is in the Traditional Cemetery in Naytahwaush. Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen is handling arrangements.
Carol A. Heflin, 65, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009, after battling breast cancer. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at West Funeral Home in Fargo. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church in Harwood, N.D., with burial at Lower Maple Cemetery in Harwood.
Jan. 19, 1940-Oct. 17, 2009 Ray E. Franklund, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Ray was born the son of Victor and Ida (Carlson) Franklund on January 19, 1940 in Wilton, N.D. He was raised and educated in Wilton, graduating from Wilton High School in 1959. Ray was united in marriage to Jeanette Carlson on July 16, 1960 in Washburn, N.D. He was the manager of grain elevators in several communities in North Dakota and Minnesota, including Falkirk, Makoti, Rolla and Plummer, Minn., Regan, Lisbon and Medina, N.D.
May 18, 1945-Oct. 17, 2009 Victor Hermanson, 64, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his residence. Victor Hermanson was born to Alton and Gladys (Maring) Hermanson on May 18, 1945 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up in Detroit Lakes and enjoyed life around Hermanson's Resort on Big Floyd Lake, which his parents owned and operated. Victor liked interacting with the guests, and they likewise enjoyed his company. He loved to fish and ride his bike during those summers.
Feb. 11, 1940-Oct. 18, 2009 Evelyn Ingrid Sullinger, 69, of Osage, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Evelyn was born to William and Mary (Longfors) Pihlaja on February 11, 1940 in Shell Lake Township, rural Becker County. She attended country school in Shell Lake. As a young woman, she worked in Chicago, Ill., at MacRay's Plastic. She married Royce Sullinger on December 13, 1959. They raised three sons together.
March 30, 1918-Oct. 7, 2009 Elwood J. Lund, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Oak Crossing (St. Mary's Nursing Center) in Detroit Lakes. Elwood Lund was born to Edward and Louise (Katzung) Lund on March 30, 1918 in Bricelyn, Minn. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Bricelyn High School in 1936. He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where he earned a bachelor's degree. Elwood was united in marriage to Madeline Kittelson on November 27, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he was stationed in the Army Air Corps.
Tristan Jeffrey Strehlow was born and died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at St.
George William Paul, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be held on a later date. The David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Dec. 6, 1923-Oct. 14, 2009 Marjorie L. Johnson, 85, of Lake Park, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Marjorie L. Nelson was born to Maynard and Tilla (Teigen) Nelson on December 6, 1923, near Rollag. She graduated from Lake Park High School in 1942 and then worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in a defense plant in Michigan. She returned to Lake Park and married Carl T. Johnson in 1950, and they made their home in Lake Park. Marjorie worked at the Community Co-op of Lake Park for 35 years, serving as bookkeeper and office manager.
July 24, 1920-Oct. 13, 2009 Norbert "Norb" Ditterick, Sr., 89, of Detroit Lakes, a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend, went home to the Lord Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, with a Prayer Service from 6 to 7 p.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, and continuing one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Msgr. Tim McGee officiating.
