Oct. 27, 1990-July 12, 2010 Detroit Lakes native Amy Beth Darnell, 19, of Apache Junction, Ariz., passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, with her family by her side, after a month long battle with a leukemia relapse. Amy was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia) at the age of 13. After six years of being cancer free, her leukemia returned. Amy was born October 27, 1990 in Detroit Lakes. She moved to Arizona at the age of three, and graduated from Apache Junction High School in May 2009. She completed training at the Airline Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., in September 2009.
March 22, 1923-July 11, 2010 Jesse Lee Schuck was born March 22, 1923, to Emil and Augusta (Rieniets) Schuck. "Sam," as he was known to most people, proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Sam was united in marriage to Sally Leach on December 20, 1950. He established Schuck Bus Service in 1954. Sam and Sally spent many years transporting school children for the Moorhead School District. Sally passed away in 1975; Sam retired in 1986. On Valentine's Day of 1986, Sam married Betty Melander.
March 9, 1932-July 12, 2010 Former Detroit Lakes resident Gerald Jacobsen, 78, of Willmar, died unexpectedly Monday evening, July 12, 2010, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A mass of Christian burial took place Saturday, July 17 at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar, with burial in the church cemetery. Military Honors were provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Gerald Gene Jacobsen, also known as "Jerry" or "Jake," was born to Gordon and Lenore (Franklin) Jacobsen on March 9, 1932, in Chicago, Ill.
Gail L. Score, 49, of Rockwell, Tenn., died Friday, May 14, 2010 in Tennessee. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 in Elmwood Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes, with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is assisting the family.
Aug. 24, 1927-July 12, 2010 G. David Farkell, "The Prairie Bookbinder," 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, July 12, 2010 at his residence in Detroit Lakes. A celebration of David's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with Rev. Wade Dutton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. George David Farkell was born to George L. and Velma (Thompson) Farkell on August 24, 1927 in Minneapolis. He was raised and educated in Minneapolis, graduating from South West High School in 1944.
Aug. 4, 1920-July 12, 2010 Marjorie L. Leegard, 89, of Detroit Lakes died Monday, July 12, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Marjorie Louise Britton was born to Harry and Edna (Peck) Britton on August 4, 1920 in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1938. On May 31, 1942 she was united in marriage to Jerome Leegard at Richwood Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes.
Dec. 13, 1921-July 3, 2010 Mildred L. "Millie" Pielow, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Memorial services were held Thursday, July 8 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Mildred Lorraine Erickson was born to Henry and Elvira Erickson on December 13, 1921 in Thief River Falls. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. As a young child the family moved to south Mpls where they owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store. Millie graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis.
Nov. 12, 1968-July 7, 2010 Quentin "Stew" Stewart, 41, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in Aberdeen, S.D. from diabetic complications. Quentin was born November 12, 1968 in North Platte, Neb. He graduated from Soesterberg American High School in The Netherlands in 1987. Quentin enlisted in the Air Force and served as a crewmember with the U.S. Air Force Band at Bolling Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force Quentin moved to Richville, Minn., and worked at Lund Boats in New York Mills.
April 14, 1947-July 7, 2010 Reuben Robert Aho, 63, a lifelong Wolf Lake area resident, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, following a long battle against brain cancer. Reuben was born to Hugo and Elsie (Kumma) Aho on April 14, 1947 in Detroit Lakes. It was in the Wolf Lake area that he attended country school and then went on to attend high school in Menahga, where he graduated with the Class of 1965.
July 27, 1920-July 6, 2010 Bernard J. Revering, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, July 6 at St. Mary's-Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. A mass of Christian burial is set for 11 a.m. Friday, July 9 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 12 at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minn. Bernard Joseph Revering was born to Anton and Mary (Kraemer) Revering on July 27, 1920 in Perham. A well known outdoor writer and sportsman, he was known to everyone as "Bernie" and his byline was widely recognized.
