Sept. 21, 1926-July 8, 2011 Reier "Bud" Bakken, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, July 8, 2011 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Bud Bakken was born to Reier and Inga (Haaland) Bakken on September 21, 1926 in Hillsboro, N.D. They moved to rural Detroit Lakes when Bud was a young boy. He grew up and attended country school near his home. On February 28, 1951 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Pojar in Callaway. They made their home and farmed in Richwood Township of rural Detroit Lakes.
Hazel (Sanford) Regier, 95, of Lake Park, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, July 11 at Hawley Alliance Church in Hawley, with burial at the Ulen West Cemtery, Ulen, Minn. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wright Funeral Home.
April 11, 1958-July 6, 2011 DeAnn Fay McWethy, 53, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in her home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 at Bakke Lutheran Church, followed with a 7 p.m. prayer service. It will also continue for one hour prior to funeral services, which begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, in Bakke Lutheran Church. DeAnn Sagmo was born to Chester and Eileen (Harthun) Sagmo on April 11, 1958 in Detroit Lakes. She attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1976.
May 31, 1924-July 2, 2011 Lloyd F. Schoenberger, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at his residence. Lloyd Schoenberger was born to Otto and Emma (Dahring) Schoenberger on May 31, 1924 in rural Detroit Lakes. He grew up there and helped with the operation of the family owned dance hall and roller-skating rink. He attended school in Frazee, graduating from Frazee High School. He then drove truck for the milk plant in Detroit Lakes. Lloyd was married to Mary Randall on October 10, 1946.
April 14, 1964-July 3, 2011 Barry E. Ellegaard, 47, of Detroit Lakes died Sunday, July 3, 2011 following a boating accident on Long Lake near Detroit Lakes. Barry E. Ellegaard was born to Walter and Carol (McArthur) Ellegaard on April 14, 1964 in Crookston, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Fertile, Minn., graduating from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1982. He excelled in many athletic activities in high school. On January 21, 2006 he was united in marriage to Mary Beth Pavek. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Barry had a love for life and helping others.
Former Grand Forks resident Roberta Ann Deraney, 73, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, with luncheon to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Arrangements have been entrusted to Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks.
Nov. 27, 1946-July 4, 2011 Douglas A. Cossette, 64, of Little Cormorant Lake, Audubon, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home. Douglas was born to Saul and Donna Cossette on November 27, 1946 in Moorhead. He was raised in Fargo and attended St. Anthony's grade school and Shanley High School. After graduation, Doug served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge, he attended and graduated from North Dakota State University, continued with graduate studies at Moorhead State and continued with his studies in Denver, Colo.
Lorraine Louise Hulda Nelson, 82, Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Essentia Health, Fargo, N.D. Funeral services will be Friday, July 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation one hour prior to services.
July 28, 1938-July 1, 2011 Gary A. Young, 72, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, July 1, 2011 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on I-94 near Terry, Montana. There will be a visitation for Gary from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, with Military Rites at 7 p.m. provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Following the visitation, there will be a reception at the Young residence. Gary Allen Young was born to Kennith and Helen (Spalding) Young on July 28, 1938 in Spencer, Iowa.
Jan. 24, 1923-July 2, 2011 Hjalmer "Jerry" Lund Johnson, 88, of Fargo passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Sanford's Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, surrounded by his children and special friend, Marge Brantner. Hjalmer Lund was born to August and Olanda Jhohanson on January 24, 1923 in Arendal, Norway. He came to America in 1939 as a Merchant Marine. He traveled much of the world at this time. Hjalmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an MP (Military Police) in Japan. Hjalmer married the love of his life, Mae Sanderson on November 20, 1946.
