March 12, 1962-Feb. 3, 2013 Former Frazee resident Kerry J. Wallace, 50, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his parents' home, under the care of his loving family, his fiancé Diane, and Hospice of the Red River Valley. A visitation is set from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in St. Mary of the Lakes Cemetery in rural Pelican Rapids. Kerry James Wallace was born to Kenneth and Betty (Rasmussen) Wallace on March 12, 1962 in Detroit Lakes.
Dec. 12, 1927-Feb. 1, 2013 Cleo H.J. Skramstad, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died peacefully Friday, February 1, 2013 at Ecumen Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services for Cleo will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 in the David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Officiating at the service will be Reverend Jillene Gallitin. Interment will be held in the spring at First Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington, Minn. Cleo Julia Hazel Phelps was born to Celmore and Hazel (Danialson) Phelps on December 12, 1927 in St. John, N.D.
Sept. 29, 1915-Feb. 2, 2013 "I want to be an outrageous old woman who never gets called old lady I want to get leaner and meaner, sharp edged and earth-colored till I fade away from pure joy." Jane K. Rogstad, 97, passed away on Saturday. February 2, 2013 at the Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jane was born to Harry and Genevieve (Schutt) Protzeller on September 29, 1915 in Thief River Falls. Jane received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Minnesota. She married Kent S. Rogstad in Fairmont, Minn., on September 26, 1938.
April 7, 1974-Feb. 2, 2013 Jason C. LaFlair, 38, of Lake Park, died Saturday February 2, 2013 at his residence. Jason Charles LaFlair was born on April 7, 1974. He grew up and attended school in Pequot Lakes, graduating from Pequot Lakes High School in 1992. He attended Bemidji State University, where he graduated with a degree in computer science. He moved to Audubon and worked for SJ Rhombus of Detroit Lakes for a few years.
Inez Zitzow, 85, of Vergas, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the Vergas United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Vergas United Methodist Church, with a 6 p.m. prayer service. It will continue for one hour prior to Friday's services. Burial will be in the spring of 2013 at the Vergas Village Cemetery, Vergas.
July 24, 1918-Jan. 29, 2013 R. Orpha Amundson, 94, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Ruth Orpha Burud was born to Oscar and Rachel (Wenner) Burud on July 24, 1918, in Black Eagle, Mont. Diagnosed with a serious heart condition as an infant, doctors gave her less than a year to live. With her parents and two sisters, Orpha lived on a homestead in Rudyard, Mont., until shortly before her first birthday, when the family traveled by touring car to Ulen.
July 25, 1930-Jan. 10, 2013 Former Detroit Lakes resident Clifford H. "Skip" Mahar, 82, of Golden Valley, Ariz., died Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Kingman, Ariz. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with Curt Fowler officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to services on Saturday. Clifford H. Mahar, known by all as "Skip," was born to Raymond and Delia (Davenport) Mahar on July 25, 1930 in St. Paul. He was raised and educated in Fargo. He served with the U.S.
Roger J. Mertes, 63, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at his home. A memorial service will be held later this summer. Arrangements have been entrusted to West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
March 31, 1951-Jan. 29, 2013 Erroll Anthony "Tony" Ovaldson, 61, of Mahnomen, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his residence in Mahnomen. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, with Father Dwight Hoebereht, OMI, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Marine Corps League of Park Rapids and the White Earth Honor Guard. Visitation will be begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb.
Sept. 16, 1946-Jan. 26, 2013 Former Minneapolis resident Marilyn L. Rogers, 66, of Mahnomen, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church in rural Ogema. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Marilyn Louise Rogers was born to Archie and Bessie (Beaupre) Rogers on September 16, 1946 in White Earth.
