May 3, 1930-Oct. 25, 2010 Former Pelican Rapids resident William "Will" Meyer, 80, of Moorhead, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Moorhead. William Nicholas Meyer was born the son of William (Bill) Sr., and Myrtle (Dokken) Meyer on May 3, 1930 in Rugby, N.D. He was baptized into the First Lutheran Church in Rugby on September 20, 1930. Will was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Cynthia Volk on October 12, 1948. They made their home in the Rugby area, where they began raising their five children.
Feb. 12, 1913-Oct. 27, 2010 Joseph R. Werlinger, 97, Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Monsignor Timothy McGee officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Holy Rosary Church; there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 and Parish Prayers at 7 p.m.
Former Detroit Lakes resident E.N. "Micky" Plath, 79, of Nickerson, Minn., passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Augustana Nursing Home in Moose Lake, Minn. She is survived by one daughter, Michelle Lappegaard of Nickerson; one son, Todd Plath of Palm Springs, Calif.; and one grandson.
Oct. 20, 1941-Oct. 26, 2010 James Edward Zweer-ink, 69, of Waubun, put up the good fight but lost his two-year battle with Multiple Myeloma on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. He won in the end and was ushered into heaven surrounded by his family at his home. Jim was born to Harold and Ruth (Prange) Zweer-ink on October 20, 1941 in Firth, Neb. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1959 and joined the Navy in 1960. While in the Navy, he received a degree in Electrical Engineering, was commissioned as a Naval Officer and served on surface ships and submarines.
Ervin Voit, 76, of Mahnomen, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, with a Rosary to follow the prayer service. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Jan. 20, 1919-Oct. 24, 2010 Lloyd Halbakken, 91 passed away October 24, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Lloyd was born to Syver and Clara (Lunstad) Halbakken on January 20, 1919 in Larson, N.D. As a young child he moved with his family to the Rothsay, Minn., area, where he attended School District 3. Lloyd sold his belongings when he was drafted into the service and proudly served his country during World War II for four years. He was stationed in the South Pacific with the United States Army and was on 11 Pacific Islands.
Jan. 10, 1922-Oct. 23, 2010 Cecil B. Bergquist, 88, a lifelong resident of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 in Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services for Cecil will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 in Augustana Lutheran Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Cecil was born to Willie and Nellie (Bakke) Bergquist on January 10, 1922 in Detroit Lakes.
Jan. 2, 1948-Oct. 24, 2010 Keith Stensgaard, 62, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Fargo. Keith was born to Selmer and Ebba (Wangen) Stensgaard on February 2, 1948 in Moorhead. He grew up in Hawley, was confirmed at Hawley Lutheran Church and graduated from high school in 1966. After high school he continued his education at Moorhead State University. He then worked at Twin City Construction for a short time before he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
July 9, 1952-Oct. 22, 2010 Elizabeth Ballard, 58, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 in her home in Detroit Lakes. Liz was surrounded by her loved ones and passed quietly after a long battle with cancer. The memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 in United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes.
Nov. 24, 1925-Oct. 21, 2010 Donald "Hub" Walter Holmer, 84, of Frazee, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Hub was born to Harry and Elizabeth (Daubenspeck) Holmer on November 24, 1925 in Becker County. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. He attended rural schools in the Frazee area.
