Oct. 16, 1926-Jan. 9, 2010 Russell D. Skinner, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes. Russell was born the son of John and Esther (Olsen) Skinner on October 16, 1926 in Detroit Lakes. He attended country school at District 41 in Hamden Township, Becker County. Russell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Ajax until receiving an honorable discharge in 1948. Russell married Fern Mott in December 1949. They made their home in Texas for a couple of years, before returning to Audubon.
Thomas W. "Bill" Pierce of Rochert died suddenly on Friday, January 8th, 2010 in Overland Park, Kansas. Born in 1945 in Washington, D.C., he is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Pierce, Jr. and his mother, Edna Wahl Pierce. Bill grew up in Enderlin, N.D., graduated from Enderlin High School, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Biloxi, Miss., where he met his wife of 42 years. After the Air Force, Bill graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.
Nov. 11, 1918-Jan. 9, 2010 John P. Schueller, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes; there will be a rosary at 7 p.m. and parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the mass on Thursday. A mass of Christian burial is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, January 14 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
May 11, 1944-Dec. 22, 2009 Dorothy A. "Dottie" Sutton, 65, of Willmar, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16 at United Methodist Church in Willmar. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Cayuga Community Cemetery, Cayuga, N.D. Dorothy Alice Webb was born the daughter of Ross E. and Georgia (Rada) Webb on May 11, 1944, in Veblen, S.D.
Sept. 4, 1933-Jan. 6, 2010 Dale H. Jorgenson, 76, of Janesville, Minn., died on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph's-Mayo Health System in Mankato. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. MOnday, Jan. 11 at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, continuing for one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 12 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Freedom Township, Waseca County, with the Rev. Glenn Korb officiating.
Sept. 13, 1921-Jan. 4, 2010 Floyd A. Warling, 88, of rural Lake Park, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at his home. Floyd was born to Bernhard and Caroline (Nelson) Warling on September 13, 1921 in the Hamden Township, Becker County. He attended country school at District 41 in Hamden Township until the eighth grade, and then went on to graduate from Lake Park High School. Floyd was united in marriage to Vernette Christoffers on October 25, 1945 at Lake Park Lutheran Church. God blessed their marriage with four children.
June 4, 1928-Jan. 6, 2010 Phyllis M. Zirbel, 81, of Hamilton, Mont., passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at her home. Phyllis Mae Berger was born to Joseph and Constance (Geniesse) Berger on June 4, 1928 in Wrightstown, Wis. She earned a bachelor's degree in primary education from the College of St. Katherine in St. Paul. Phyllis married Gerald Wayne Zirbel on June 7, 1952. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church Craft Group and St. Francis Ladies.
Oct. 2, 1922-Jan. 5, 2010 Former Jamestown, N.D. resident Betty June Heyer, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Betty Green was born the daughter of Charles Everet and Nellie Irene (Grounds) Green on October 2, 1922 in Shidler, Okla. She attended school in various areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. On February 14, 1946 Betty married Franklin O. Heyer in Lane, S.D. They made their home in Huron, S.D., later moving to Wahpeton, N.D. and to Jamestown in 1957.
Feb. 16, 1921-Jan. 3, 2010 Doris Jane Walters, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. A Celebration of Life for Jane is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6 at First Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Jim Hinson officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be held in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Doris Jane Porter was born to Frank and Marie (Zacharias) Porter on February 16, 1921 in Pierre, S.D. Jane was raised and educated in Pierre, graduating in 1939.
May 17, 1979-Jan. 3, 2010 Amanda A. Bergstrom, 30, of St. Louis Park, Minn., died Sunday, January 3, 2010 from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in rural Detroit Lakes. Amanda was born to Perry Heinonen and Cheryl Bergstrom on May 17, 1979 in Detroit Lakes. She was raised in Detroit Lakes and Frazee, graduating from Frazee High School in 1997. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis, where she worked in various jobs. Amanda worked for Fox TV and Time Warner as a traffic programmer.
