June 16, 1938-Nov. 5, 2010 Roger W. Wirth, 72, of Callaway, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Roger was born the son of Elmer and Velma (Renollet) Wirth on June 16, 1938 in Frazee. He received his education in Frazee and Perham, graduating from Perham High School. Roger was united in marriage to Bernice Wegscheid on June 7, 1960 at St. John's Baptist Church, Bluffton, Minn. He served as a member of the Federal Reserves for seven-plus years.
Kathleen M. DuPree, 55, of Audubon, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at her home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial gathering will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, followed by the service at 1:30 p.m., in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Audubon. Arrangements are being provided by Wright Funeral Home, Lake Park.
Jan. 13, 1928-Nov. 7, 2010 Muriel D. Bartholomay, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Oak Crossing Care Center in Detroit Lakes. Muriel Delores Thompson was born January 13, 1928 in Fargo. She was raised at Sheldon, N.D., and graduated from Sheldon High School. She attended summer school at Valley City State University, and then taught for two years in the Highland School, rural Sheldon. Muriel attended business college in Bismarck, N.D.
July 28, 1924-Nov. 3, 2010 Fred H. Hein, 86, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, November 3rd at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Dan Babine officiating. Interment services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Valerius Elmer "Larry" Kugler, 78, of Lusby, Md., died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born in Underwood, Minn., Larry graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1950. A Navy Mustang and retired naval aviator, he enlisted in February 1952 and retired in November 1973.
Oct. 10, 1910-Nov. 4, 2010 Elsie Aleda Nelson, 100, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Elsie was born in Nornnagen, Sweden. She came to America at the age of four, with her two-year-old sister, Ericka and her mother, Hulda Moller. Elsie's mother Hulda married John Thunstrom. Elsie and her sister were raised as Thunstroms. Elsie was educated in District 57 and District 28. She was confirmed at Bakke Lutheran Church in 1927. She was united in marriage to Noah Nelson in July of 1934. Noah died in 1959.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Marie Sims, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Peterson Funeral Home in Morris, Minn., with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
Barbara Pikula, 64, of Butler, Minn., passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Visitation is set from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Butler, continuing for one hour prior to services on Tuesday. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Arrangements are being provided by Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.
April 17, 1952-Nov. 4, 2010 James F. Worm, better known as J.W., died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 4, 2010, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. James was born the second son of Dr. George and Ruth Worm on April 17, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wis. He grew up and went to school in Wauwatosa, Wis. In his early adult life, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Milwaukee, driving ambulances. Working with state and national associations, he was instrumental in establishing the accreditation standards in this field.
Jan. 13, 1934-Nov. 2, 2010 James R. Gilbert, 76, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010, after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's. A mass of Christian burial is set for noon Saturday, Nov. 6, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. James Russell Gilbert was born to Charles and Violet Gilbert on January 13, 1934, in Hettinger, N.D. He was raised in New England, N.D., and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years. On April 8, 1960, Jim married the love of his life, Bette Lindner.
