Nov. 21, 1921-Sept. 19, 2010 Former Ogema resident Arthur M. Stalberger, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Golden Manor in Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 and one hour prior to mass on Saturday at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Ogema. Rosary with the Knights of Columbus is at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 in Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with Father Walter Butor, O.M.I., officiating.
Aug. 7, 1942-Sept. 17, 2010 David Kenneth Cusey, 68, of Moorhead, died on Thursday, September 17, 2010, at his home in Moorhead. David was born to Kenneth and Irene (Lage) Cusey on August 7, 1942 in Perham. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, where he graduated from high school in 1960. David spent two years in the U.S. Navy, as a navigator on planes flying from Hawaii to Alaska, Midway Island and Japan. After returning home, he attended Moorhead State College (now MSUM) where he graduated in 1968. During college, he worked at the Shoe Box.
June 26, 1939-Sept. 16, 2010 The Rev. Walter Jerome Tollefson, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 16, 2010 Walter was born to Walter and Helen (Olson) Tollefson on June 26, 1939 in Pelican Rapids. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1957 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Moorhead State University in 1981. In September of 1965, Walter joined the Detroit Lakes Police Department. He was appointed Chief of Police in June of 1989.
Peter James Query, 21, of Fargo, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at his home. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
March 24, 1922-Sept. 13, 2010 Helen Marcella Fugere, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Helen was born to Ole and Sophia Lee LeGrand on March 24, 1922 in Moorhead. She graduated from Moorhead High School and Moorhead State Teachers College. On October 21, 1967 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thomas Fugere, in Park Rapids. Helen taught in the Fargo Public Schools at Roosevelt and Ben Franklin, until retiring in 1984.
Sept. 12, 1941-Sept. 10, 2010 DuWayne L. Kolnes, 68, of rural Waubun, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A celebration of DuWayne's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. DuWayne Larry Kolnes was born to Lawrence and Eleanor (Dyrdahl) Kolnes on September 12, 1941 in Ada, Minn. He was raised and educated in Hendrum, Minn. DuWayne married Patricia Kipples in Moorhead on September 23, 1961.
June 18, 1931-Sept. 11, 2010 Stanley C. Opsahl, 79, of Audubon, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Stanley Carroll Opsahl was born to Ole and Ragna (Anderson) Opsahl on June 18, 1931 in Barnesville, Minn., where he grew up and received his education, graduating from Barnesville High School in 1950. He was baptized and confirmed at the Little Bethany Church in rural Barnesville. Stanley served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. On June 21, 1960 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Wiegand in Fargo, where they made their home.
May 3, 1936-Sept. 6, 2010 Former Detroit Lakes resident Alyce Darlene Hillman, 74, of Ramsey, Minn., died Monday, September 6, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn. Alyce was born the daughter of Daniel and Alma Warter on May 3, 1936 in Perham. She graduated from Frazee High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Roger Hillman on December 26, 1962 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee. She worked at various jobs in Detroit Lakes. The family moved to New Rockford, N.D., in 1964, returning to Detroit Lakes in 1969.
April 12, 1937-Sept. 10, 2010 While awaiting the return of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Arlene Bernice Thompson's earthly body failed her at the age of 73, after a decade long fight with diabetes, on Friday, September 10 at St. Mary's Innovis Hospital in Detroit Lakes, with her family by her side. As she tarried in life she worshiped the Lord, strived to know more about him and do his work, leaving a legacy of ministry through her children and grandchildren. Arlene was born April 12, 1937 to John and Mabel Watland in Knox, N.D., where she grew up on the family farm.
Feb. 16, 1930-Sept. 7, 2010 Arlene J. Johnson, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services for Arlene were held Friday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel. Interment was at Strandvick Cemetery, rural Lake Park. Arlene J. Johnson was born to Henry and Florence (Erickson) Johnson on February 16, 1930 in rural Lake Park. She attended country school at District 50 near Lake Park until 1940, when she moved to Detroit Lakes.
