March 22, 1917-Jan. 8, 2011 Nora Josephine Fiss, 94, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls. Nora was born the daughter of Engebret "Embrick" and Olga (Christianson) Arntson on March 22, 1917 in Pelican Rapids. She grew up in rural Barnesville, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1934. She attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, graduating in 1938. On November 16, 1940, Nora married Walter Fiss in Rothsay. They resided in Fargo.
March 18, 1925-Jan. 10, 2011 Delia A. Hokenson, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Delia was born the daughter of Wester and Alma (Ketonen) Harvala on March 18, 1925 in Shell Lake Township, on the family farm. She attended school in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Delia went on to attend St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, graduating in September of 1946. She was united in marriage to Henry Hokenson on July 25, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. Delia joined the U.S.
Ronald Dean "Hillbilly" Henderson, 47, of Audubon, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Aug. 15, 1918-Jan. 8, 2011 Emerald Rosalyn Strand was born to Theodore and Mabel (Hogenson) Strand on August 15, 1918, in Lake Park. She was raised in that area and attended a one-room school for her education. She later attended and graduated from the New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, as a beautician. Emerald was united in marriage to Lester Ristvedt on July 16, 1940, on the family farm home north of Lake Park. They made their home in Fargo and in Moorhead.
Eunice Hoefs was born and raised in Minnesota, moving to California after her marriage to Wallace E. Hoefs. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary five years ago. Eunice worked for Hallmark for over 30 years; she loved what she did, but what she truly enjoyed was collecting Hallmark ornaments and sharing them with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, daughter, two sons, three granddaughters, a grandson and two great granddaughters. She was well loved and will be missed by all.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Alice Harms, 89, of Alexandria, Minn., died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 in First Lutheran Church, Alexandria, with visitation for one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are being provided by Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
Harriet Sylvia Miller, 92, of Mound, Minn., passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Preceding her in death were her husband, Norbert G. Miller and sister Delphine (Dolly) Groh. Surviving Harriet are her children, Carol (Doug) Bergerson of Audubon, Mary Jane Miller (Perry Schwartz) of Minnetonka, Minn., and Norman (Lisa) Miller of Dallas, Texas; siblings Lawrence Larson of Benson, Minn., Anne Miller of St.
Feb. 24, 1939-Jan. 2, 2011 Walter H. Graf, 71, of rural Audubon, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of hospice of the Red River Valley. Walter was born the son of Otto and Hulda (Grueneich) Graf on February 24, 1939, in Napoleon, N.D. He attended school in Napoleon and completed high school at Cleveland, N.D., where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He served in the National Guard at both Valley City and Fargo, where he was honorably discharged after six years of service.
July 17, 1967-Dec. 30, 2010 Alesia Kaye Heddinger, 43, a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibway, journeyed to the spirit world on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Immanuel Saint Joseph Hospital in Mankato, Minn. Alesia was born the daughter of James D. Heddinger and Gloria Rabideau on July 17, 1967 in Hennepin County. Surviving her are a daughter, Alaena Dubak of Mankato; sons Christian Dubak of Milaca, Minn., and Dakota Magney of St. Cloud; her mother, Gloria N.
March 6, 1929-Dec. 29, 2010 Jack L. King, 81, longtime resident of Round Lake and formerly of Arden Hills, Minn., died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his residence. Jack King was born to James and Lillie (Hagen) King on March 6, 1929 in Barnesville, Minn. He graduated from Murray High School in St. Paul. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953. On July 19, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Dhein in Arden Hills.
