Aug. 13, 1918-March 19, 2010 Former Detroit Lakes resident Amos Richard Anderson, 91, died Friday, March 19, 2010 with family at his side, at his daughter's home in Woodbury, Minn. Amos was born to Carl and Emma (Bondli) Anderson on August 13, 1918 in Tansem Township, Clay County. He attended a rural school in Clay County and at age 16, left the family farm to work in Pelican Rapids at the Park Region Co-op Service Station.
July 29, 1950-March 19, 2010 Diana Mae Kendall, 59, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at her home. Diana was born the daughter of Sylvester and Opal (Robbins) Neis on July 29, 1950 in Veblen, S.D. She graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1969. Diana married Oliver Kendall on August 30, 1969 in Park Rapids. They made their home in Wadena for a short time, before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1970. Diana worked as a waitress, had a children's clothing business, was a daycare provider and worked at the Divine House in Detroit Lakes.
March 19, 1915-March 18, 2010 Ruth Twete, 94, of Battle Lake died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. Ruth Vivian Twete was born the daughter of Axel and Mabel (Myhre) Wentzel on March 19, 1915 in Battle Lake. She was their only daughter. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1933. On June 6, 1933, Ruth married Carl Twete at the age of 18. They had one child, a son, Kenneth.
Gladys L. Wettels, 92, of Ponsford, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Innovis Health Center in Fargo. Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Grace Community Church in Osage. Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids has been entrusted with arrangements.
Shirley A. Smead, 75, of Lake Park, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20 at Johnson Memorial Home, Wadena, Minn., with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Wadena Cemetery.
Sept. 8, 1918-March 16, 2010 Adeline Rothschadl, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Funeral services for Adeline will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, in Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Dan Abrahams officiating. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment will be in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Adeline was born to Joseph and Anna (Fletcher) Bertek on September 8, 1918 at the family farm near White Earth. She was raised and educated near White Earth.
July 29, 1930-March 14, 2010 Angeletta D. Ross, 79, of Cass Lake, Minn., passed away at her home on Little Wolf Lake on Sunday, March 14, 2010, surrounded by her family. Angeletta Delores Henry was born to Samuel and Marie Henry on July 29, 1930 in White Earth. She graduated from Flandreau Boarding School in South Dakota. Angeletta married George Mark Ross on January 14, 1950. She attended St. Catherine's College in St. Paul, and later worked at Medtronic in New Brighton, Minn. Angeletta was a licensed Ojibwe language teacher.
Jan. 11, 1942-March 12, 2010 Kathleen A. Anderson, 68, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Jeff Teeples officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Holt Cemetery at Holt, Minn. Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Anderson was born to Clarence and Anna (Lapic) Smith on January 11, 1942 in Thief River Falls, Minn.
Jan. 24, 1930-March 10, 2010 Richard A. "Dick" Tovson, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Dick was born the son of Arthur and Hazel "Toots" (Klomstad) Tovson on January 24, 1930, in Detroit Lakes. He was baptized on March 10, 1930 and confirmed on May 14, 1944 at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Dick was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. He excelled at sports, especially baseball and basketball. Dick graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1947.
Feb. 10, 1924-March 10, 2010 Norman E. Nelson, 86, of Lake Park, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Norman Elmer Nelson was born to Ernest and Minnie (Olson) Nelson on February 10, 1924 in Glyndon, Minn. He attended District 2 country school and Lake Park High School, graduating in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy and then attended the Institutional On-Farm Training Class at the Detroit Lakes High School. Norman married DeLoyne Eilertson on April 4, 1947 at the Lake Park Lutheran Church parsonage. They purchased the farm in 1949 and he lived there the rest of his life.
