The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is making changes to the Grant-in-Aid Program by increasing accountability, oversight and simplifying the application process. This will make it more efficient for local trails clubs to receive assistance for trail maintenance and development. Grants are awarded annually by the DNR. The DNR has been working with counties and snowmobile clubs on changes to the snowmobile Grant-in-Aid Program.
Minnesota State University Moorhead will be one of 18 host sites in Minnesota for College Goal Sunday, a national-one-day event that provides free information and assistance to families who are filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA is the federally required form for students seeking financial aid, such as grants and loans. Completing it is the first step in qualifying for aid. At MSUM, the event, aimed at students considering any kind of post-high school education, runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb.

It was a competently made movie, but in general Jodie Foster just really annoyed me. Whenever I am faced with a film that I really didn't like, it's good to watch it again on DVD to see if the experience is different. Sometimes it causes me to reevaluate the film, although it usually doesn't.

Lake Park-Audubon Family Career and Community Leaders of America's Britny Hamblin, Ashley Anderson and Angie Wavra have been working with the LP-A fourth grade elementary students in an Adopt a Grandparent program at the Sunnyside Nursing home, rural Lake Park. Twenty residents of the local nursing home have been partnered with two or three fourth graders in hopes of bridging the generations together in a common sharing environment. 50 Years ago Feb. 3, 1956 -- It seems unlikely that two big questions in the slaying of Kenneth Lindbergh, a 44-year-old Thief River Falls banker whose body was found Nov. 26, were answered when a federal grand jury met in St Paul this week. Those questions are: where did Lindbergh spend an hour in Detroit Lakes on Saturday night, Nov. 12, and did he place a long distance phone call to Detroit Lakes before coming here that Saturday? Voters in Detroit Lakes go to the polls Feb. 3 to ballot on a proposed ordinance giving the Consumers Gas Co.
Good snowmobile trail conditions are reported over much of north and west central Minnesota, according to trail condition reports from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Much of northern Minnesota has eight or more inches of snow, resulting in good to excellent snowmobile conditions. Trails are in good shape in the Tower area, said Steve Hennessy, DNR Tower area trails specialist. "We have many miles of riding opportunities and plenty of snow for great riding. There are a few short sections that cross wetlands and are rough because we cannot get the groomers across them.
