Oct. 22, 1949-Feb. 12, 2006 James "Chopper" Anick, 56, of Pelican Rapids, died in his sleep on Sunday, February 12, 2006, after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Jim, the son of Steve and Ruth Anick of Hermantown, Minn., was born on Oct. 22, 1949, in Duluth, Minn. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 1968. For the last 23 years, Jim was a resident of Pelican Rapids, where he worked for the Department of Agriculture up until his death.

Roethel enrolls Sarah Roethel, a senior at Detroit Lakes High School, has been accepted to Minnesota State University Moorhead. Roethel is the daughter of David and Sharon Roethel and intends to major in early childhood special education. Minnesota State University Moorhead is a comprehensive regional university enrolling approximately 7,600 students. MSUM offers more than 135 majors, emphases and options, 16 areas of pre-professional studies, 32 areas of licensure preparation, and 13 graduate programs. July 4, 1949-Feb. 10, 2006 David M. Weimer, 56, of Syracuse, Ind., died at 4:25 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2006 at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Ind. David was born to Donald M. and Irene E. (Kissinger) Weimer on July 4, 1949 in Gary, Ind. He graduated from Liberty High School in Chesterton, Ind. David moved to the Syracuse, Ind., area 28 years ago, from Wisconsin. He married Sue Brock on May 25, 1996 in Las Vegas. David was a business owner and salesman.
Minnesota Democrats want Gov. Tim Pawlenty's radio show declared an illegal campaign contribution from stations carrying it. The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party on Friday asked the state's campaign regulation board to rule the weekly show amounted to a $600,000 donation to the Pawlenty re-election campaign in 2005.
