June 19, 1951-Jan. 13, 2010 Larry "Butch" Lee Pachel, 58, of Park Rapids, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in Junction City, Kansas. Butch was born the son of George J. and Pauline R. (Bennett) Pachel on June 19, 1951 in Park Rapids, where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Clements on June 12, 1971 in Snellman, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to a farm in Osage Township, where they continued to reside until the time of his death.
Oct. 11, 1915-Jan. 18, 2010 Myrtle C. Olson died on Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Oak Crossing-Cedar Ridge in Detroit Lakes. Myrtle Christina Grefsrud was born to Gustav and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud on October 11, 1915 at their home in rural Hawley. She attended country school in Parke Township, Clay County. Myrtle married Oscar T. Olson on December 30, 1936. They lived on a farm in rural Lake Park, until they moved to Lake Ida in 1951. Myrtle was a stay at home mother who was a caregiver to all of those around her. She was also an avid gardener and baker.
June 1, 1909-Jan. 15, 2010 Malinda V. Gamer, 100, of Frazee, passed away at the Frazee Care Center on Friday, January 15, 2010, under hospice care with her family by her side. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Evergreen, rural Frazee, with the Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Malinda Victoria Quade was born to Theodore and Paulina (Bressler) Quade on June, 1, 1909 in Evergreen Township, Frazee. She moved to Canada with her mother at a young age. At age 18, she moved back to the Frazee area to find work.
July 4, 1915-Jan. 16, 2010 Raymond J. Anderson, 94, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 21 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a Prayer Service at 6 p.m. continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, January 22 at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Brenda North officiating.
Former Detroit Lakes resident LeRoy E. Edstrom, 76, of Prior Lake, Minn., passed peacefully from this life on Friday, January 15, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. LeRoy Edward Edstrom was born in West Fargo, North Dakota and served in the Army in West Germany during the Korean War. When he returned to the United States he graduated from Moorhead State Teacher's College with a master's degree in education, and began a 35-year teaching career. For 33 of those years he taught art to elementary and middle school children in Austin, Minn.
Nov. 21, 1921-Jan. 12, 2010 Norma F. Hoerner, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A Memorial Service for Norma is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel one hour prior to services. A second Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m.
Detroit Lakes High School alumni (Class of 1949) Mona (Matson) Riggs, 78, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M. Memorial services were held in Farmington on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington.

George E. Libby, Sr. 58, of White Earth, died September 10, 2009 as the result of a tragic house fire. A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 19 at the White Earth Community Center, with a time of gathering one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen and Winger, Minn.
Feb. 8, 1938-Jan. 10, 2010 Duane G. Jasken, 71, of Ogema, passed away at home on Sunday, January 10, 2010, surrounded by his family. A mass of Christian burial is set for 11 a.m. Friday, January 15 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, with Father Walter Butor, O.M.I., officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, White Earth. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes; there will be a parish vigil at 7 p.m.
