Detroit Lakes native Donald L. "Doc" Lane, 75, of St. Cloud, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. A mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, July 28 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud, with Rev. Thomas Knoblach, Rev. Anthony Oelrich and Rev. Robert Harren officiating. Burial took place at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud. Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud was entrusted with the arrangements.
Nov. 23, 1955-Aug. 17, 2011 Robert W. Hedstrom, 55, of Lake Park, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at his home in Lake Park. Robert was born to Ogden and Edith (Berg) Hedstrom on November 23, 1955, in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended school in Lake Park, graduating from Lake Park High School. He was confirmed in Lake Park Lutheran Church, where he was a life member. He worked at the Felton Elevator and the Lake Park Elevator. Robert enjoyed deer hunting and gardening. In the years since his father's death he had been the primary caregiver for his mother.
April 18, 1933-Aug. 17, 2011 Jean M. Hopman, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at her home. Jean was born the daughter of Ole and Evelyn (Johnston) Dahl on April 18, 1933 in Devils Lake, N.D. She was raised in rural Michigan, N.D., and attended country school, where her mother, Evelyn was also the teacher. Jean graduated from Michigan High School in 1951. After high school she attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks and after graduating in 1952, she became a secretary at ASC in Grand Forks for six years.
Leona Saatoff, 102, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Visitation and funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Circles of Faith United Church of Christ in Waubun, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Mahnomen. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
Lillian "Babe" Schmidt, 104, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation and funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 18 at Lake Grove Lutheran Church near Waubun, with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
Mary E. Bergman, 98, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. A gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo.
Former Harwood, N.D., resident Harry McCaw Hogness, 70, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the Cottages at Emmanuel in Detroit Lakes. Arrangements are pending with Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo.
July 14, 1923-Aug. 13, 2011 Evelyn "Ev" Watson, 88, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services for Evelyn were held Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Evelyn "Ev" was born July 14, 1923 in Saskatchewan, Canada, while her parents were immigrating to the United States from Paris, France. Evelyn grew up in Eveleth, Minn. and attended Eveleth High School, where she graduated with honors.
Oct, 21, 1925-Aug. 17, 2011 Willard C. Jacobs, 85, of Fargo passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Sanford Health, Fargo. Willard was born to Isaac and Margaret (Karges) Jacobs on October 21, 1925 in Fargo. He enlisted into the United States Navy in December 1942. He served on the USS Marlin 55205 and the USS ODAX 55484 before being discharged in 1946. Following his discharge from the service, Willard worked as an electrician for 41 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in 1987.
April 1, 1917-Aug. 14, 2011 George W. Warren, 94, of Lake Park, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Sanford Health's Palliative Care Center, Fargo. George was born to Charles and Helen (McNair) Warren on April 1, 1917 in Elkton Township, Minn. He grew up near Downer, Minn., and went to school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1936. George then continued his schooling in the CCC's and at Hanson Mechanical Trade School for Auto Mechanics. If George couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed. In 1941, George enlisted in the U.S. Army.
