Sept. 25, 1934-July 6, 2008 Irene O. Keezer, 73, of White Earth, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Irene Olivia Jackson was born to Louis and Mary (Roy) Jackson on Sept. 25, 1934 in White Earth. Irene married Harry Keezer in May 1951. She received her GED and attended Moorhead State University, graduating with an associate's degree for counseling in 1985. Irene worked at the Circle of Life School in White Earth for six years as a counselor. In the summertime, Harry and Irene made Indian crafts and would travel the roads by Lake Superior selling those craft items.
Sept. 12, 1939-July 6, 2008 Roger O. Sexton, 68, of Detroit Lakes, died at his home on Sunday morning, July 6, 2008 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Roger Sexton was born the son of Lloyd and Pearl (Bakke) Sexton on Sept. 12, 1939 in Osage. He was educated in the Osage-Park Rapids area, graduating in 1957 from Park Rapids High School. He married Audrey Shores of Hubbard, Minn., in 1961 and they relocated to Detroit Lakes. The couple had two daughters, Brenda and Lanita Sexton. Audrey died on Jan. 7, 1989. Roger married Ranae Siekas of Detroit Lakes on July 19, 1997.
June 27, 1944-July 4, 2008 Joyce A. Kleiv, 64, of Battle Lake, Minn., died Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Battle Lake. Joyce Ann Kleiv was born to Alvin and Lillian (Strass) Kleiv on June 27, 1944 in Moorhead. She grew up and attended school in Harwood, N.D. She lived in Detroit Lakes for many years, and in 2001 became a resident of the Ottertail Nursing Home Golden Living Center.
Jan. 4, 1919-March 26, 2008 Loren C. Lindstrom, 89, of Lake Park, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park. Loren was born to Albert and Olga (Erickson) Lindstrom on Jan. 4, 1919 at Lake Park. He grew up south of Lake Park and attended rural country school at District 50. Loren spent six years in the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 29, 1955 he married Hanna Shewchuk in Vancouver, B.C.
Feb. 28, 1941-June 24, 2008 Lyle E. "Punky" Tibbetts, 67, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at his home. Lyle Earl Tibbetts was born to Frank and Flossie (Collins) Tibbetts on Feb. 28, 1941 in Zerkel, Minn. He was raised and attended school in Bagley. Lyle began his military career during the Korean War. While serving his country, he met and fell in love with Monika Anna Kraus; they were married on Dec. 22, 1964 in Bonbaden, Germany. Lyle continued his active service through the Vietnam War, receiving numerous medals including Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and Purple Hearts.
Dec. 1, 1978-June 30, 2008 Charles R. "Chuck" Johnson, 29, of Detroit Lakes, died peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2008 at his home. Charles Rodney Johnson was born to Paula (Hamm) Burnham and Rodney Johnson on Dec. 1, 1978 in Rochester, Minn. He grew up in Minnesota and earned his diploma from Park Rapids High School in 1998. After high school, Chuck resided in Moorhead for a short time before returning to the Detroit Lakes area. Chuck lived at New Horizons in Frazee and after a few years, he ventured out on his own. At the time of his death he resided at Park Manor in Detroit Lakes.
Jan. 23, 1922-June 29, 2008 Margaret S. Feldt, 86, of Wolf Lake, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Margaret Susan Oja was born to Fred and Saima Oja on Jan. 23, 1922 in Soudan, Minn., where she began her public schooling before moving with her family to the Wolf Lake area in 1930. Margaret grew up on her parents' farm, and attended country school nearby. On April 27, 1939, Margaret married Edwin George Feldt at the Evergreen Parsonage. This union was blessed with four children; Gerald, David, Lois, and Kevin.
March 10, 1912-June 24, 2008 Verda C. Cole, 96, of Frazee, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham. Verda Cleo Wang was born the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Harrington) Wang on March 10, 1912 in Kelliher, Minn. Her mother died a few days after her birth, and Verda was raised by her grandmother, Alma Harrington. They made their home near Frazee, where she attended school and was raised. Verda married Alfred Cole on March 31, 1932.
Former Winger, Minn., resident Selma Hassel, 87, of Fosston, Minn., died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Faaberg Lutheran Church in rural Gary, Minn. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen and Winger.
Sept. 13, 1924-June 27, 2008 Donald C. Vorwerk, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died at his home on Friday, June 27, 2008, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and his family. Don was born to Ernest and Melvina (Looch) Vorwerk on Sept. 13, 1924 in Parshall, N.D. He was baptized in North Dakota. His family moved to Detroit Lakes in 1934. He attended school at Little Floyd Lake District 15. Don served in the United States Navy from 1942-46. He returned to Detroit Lakes and in the early 1950's, was a motorcycle cop in Detroit Lakes.
