(Text is taken as-printed in archived Tribune papers) April 8, 1937 (80 years ago) Sale and consumption of beer and 3.2 malt in Detroit Lakes will close at 12:30 a.m. during the winter months and 2 a.m. during the summer months and will be prohibited Sundays, the year around until 12 noon, it was decided by the city council at its regular meeting Monday night. Council chambers were jammed with local beer vendors and other interested parties with the result that a spirited discussion preceded the passing of the ruling which goes into effect Saturday, April 10.
Road conditions were icy just after 7 a.m. Wednesday when Robert Kyle Wiggins, 38, of New York Mills, lost control of the Trail Blazer he was driving and rolled into the center median on Highway 10 near Haberman Road. Wiggins was transported to Perham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He had not been wearing his seatbelt, air bags did not deploy in the Blazer. The Minnesota State Patrol investigated the crash, finding alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Detroit Lakes Tribune has recently hired two new employees to their sales team: Vicki Matzke, multi-media advertising sales assistant and Jim Brogren, multi-media advertising sales representative. Vicki Matzke Matzke moved to the area last year from Faribault, Minnesota, where she had been working at Innovative Food Processors for the last 16 years. "The people of Detroit Lakes and all of the surrounding area have been so welcoming and are the true definition of 'Minnesota Nice'," said Matzke.
Average retail gasoline prices in Minnesota have fallen 1 cent per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.31/gallon yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,856 gas outlets in Minnesota. This compares with the national average that has increased 1 cent per gallon in the last week to $2.42/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
SJE-Rhombus, a leading manufacturer of pump control solutions for the water and wastewater industry, was awarded the 2017 ESOP Company of the Year award for the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the ESOP Association. Friday, April 14 At 7:10 a.m. a caller reported four mailboxes were damaged sometime in the night along the 36000 block of Hubble Pond Road in Rochert. At 7:53 p.m. a cooler was stolen from the 52000 block of 180th Street in Osage. Saturday, April 15 At 4:33 p.m. window was broken on the 28000 block of Migizi Avenue in Ponsford. Sunday, April 16
A male was shot in the leg last night on the 15000 block of East Munson Drive in Detroit Lakes. The Becker County Sheriff's Office responded to the call just after 10 p.m., April 24, finding a 60-year-old male by the name of Terry Tyge suffering with a gunshot wound to the leg. St. Mary's EMS transported Tyge to Essentia-St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes, and he was later transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
Lacey Albright has been hired as the store manager of Midwest Workwear in downtown Detroit Lakes.
