Timothy Alan Lee, 32, of Grand Forks, North Dakota suffered fatal injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 34 near Becker County 29 on Wednesday afternoon, May 24. According to a report released by the Minnesota State Patrol: Lee’s car was travelling westbound on Highway 34 when it crossed over the centerline, sideswiped a pickup and crashed head-on into another car.
Bridget Okeson, RN, has been named Director of Nursing for Emmanuel Nursing Home at Ecumen Detroit Lakes. Okeson, who has been serving as Interim Director of Nursing since March, started her career at Emmanuel Nursing Home 18 years ago as a nursing assistant and continued to advance her career and education. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1999 from Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Detroit Lakes and her Registered Nursing degree in 2001 from Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Fergus Falls.
(Text is taken as-printed in archived Tribune papers) June 26, 1957 (60 years ago) Flames roared through a large barn, shown above, on the Ambrose Leitheiser farm Tuesday after the structure was ignited by a bolt of lightning about 1:45 p.m. The farm is located 3 ½ miles northeast of Detroit Lakes on Highway 34. Detroit Lakes firemen were unable to save the barn but protected a nearby granary from damage. A silo immediately adjacent to the barn was slightly burned.
A severe vehicle crash occurred just after 2 p.m. today, about eight miles east of Detroit Lakes on Highway 34. Several ambulance crews, fire crews, and law enforcement crews are on the scene now. No word on the condition of the occupants, but it appears that at least two vehicles were involved.
Average retail gasoline prices in Minnesota have risen 2.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.29/gallon yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,856 gas outlets in Minnesota. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.35/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Detroit Lakes Public Utilities has earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP 3 ) ® designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. David Lynch, Assistant Director of Utility Operations at Marquette Board of Light and Power, Michigan and chair of the Association's RP 3 Review Panel, presented the designations on May 8 during the Association's annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference held in San Antonio, Texas.
The signal at Hwy 10 and Hwy 59 in Detroit Lakes is currently operating as a four-way stop. While it will handle traffic during slower times, expect delays and backups around noon and in the later afternoon. Drivers may want to avoid the intersection or consider an alternate route during these times.
