The “Land of 10,000 Lakes” is hosting the “Land of 10,000 Ag Opportunities” at the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference June 25-28 in Minneapolis. For the first time in its 28 year history, the Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) program is hosting agricultural literacy supporters from all across the nation. The Ag in the Classroom program provides school teachers a wealth of opportunities for embedding agriculture, food and natural resources education into the K-12 curriculum.
Minnesota Rural Water Association recently presented the Extra Mile Award to Terry Maier, president of Team Lab Chemical Corp. The Extra Mile award is presented to an individual for efforts put forth above and beyond his/her normal scope of responsibilities assisting water/wastewater systems and their personnel. This award goes to the outstanding achievers in the water and wastewater industry that are recognized by operators, industry members, peers and friends.

The deadline is approaching to reserve a campsite for seasonal or monthly camping at Minnesota state parks. Reservations are due Friday, April 5, according to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). At a limited number of state park campsites, visitors can stay for a whole month or a full season (May 3 - Sept. 1 at most parks, May 24 - Sept. 1 at Kilen Woods State Park). After being locked out of their workplace at Snappy Air Distribution Products in Detroit Lakes for eight days, 95 workers returned to work at 7 a.m. today. The workers will return without a new contract and will work under the expired 2010 contract. State auditor Rebecca Otto released the 2011 Financial and Investment Report on Volunteer Fire Relief Associations. The report summarizes and evaluates the finances, basic benefit structure and investment performance of Minnesota’s volunteer fire relief associations for the year ended December 31, 2011. This report includes information on 691 of the 701 relief associations that were in existence in that year.
In the 2013-14 academic year, more than 900 Minnesota schools will be providing students additional help in achieving academic success in the face of sobering statewide statistics. Those schools have been named Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps sites to proactively help with literacy and math learning issues facing many Minnesota students.
