Private well owners: Do you know what’s in your water? More than 1 million people in Minnesota rely on private wells as their source of drinking water, but too many of them are not tested on a regular basis for things that can make people sick, such as bacteria, arsenic, or nitrate.
The Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) is seeking applicants for wetland restoration projects. Through a conservation easement sign-up and a request for proposal process, BWSR has approximately $5 million to restore wetlands and their adjacent uplands. Wetland restorations will generate wetland credits, which will be used to offset wetland impacts resulting from qualifying road improvement and rehabilitation projects in Minnesota.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point honored 2,719 undergraduate students for attaining high grade point averages during the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Among them was Bryce E. Dutton, Detroit Lakes, who achieved Honors recognition, accorded to those students who achieve grade point averages from 3.50 to 3.74.
Northwestern College recently announced that Lisa Cregan of Park Rapids graduated from the FOCUS Degree Completion program. Cregan received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The FOCUS degree completion program is for working adults who want to initiate or complete a degree in a Christian higher education setting. FOCUS offers degrees in business administration, business management, Christian counseling, communication studies, general studies, human resource management, marketing, ministries and psychology.

Kurtis Van Duyn, Detroit Lakes, was among those students named to the fall 2012 honors list at Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minn. Van Duyn achieved Highest Honors for earning a grade point average of 3.75 or higher for the semester.
