PERHAM, Minn. -- True to tradition, hundreds of people flocked to St. Lawrence Catholic Church this past weekend for the annual outdoor Polka Mass. After a religious service filled with good humor and deeper meaning, the special festivities began.
After tying a record low temperature on Wednesday, Intentional Falls broke a record Thursday with a morning low of 37, surpassing the old record of 39, set in 1999. The first week in August has been unusually cold across much of the Northland, with each day below normal in the Falls, thanks especially to colder nights. Duluth has been cooler than normal overnight, too, but normal daytime high temperatures have helped make up the difference. Thursday will be cold and possibly damp in parts of the Northland, the National Weather Service forecast notes.

FARGO – A Fargo man is charged with felony child abuse after allegedly abandoning his baby in a stroller while he was being chased by police. Kenneth Eagleman, 26, of Fargo, was charged Tuesday in Cass County District Court with one count of Class C felony child abuse or neglect. According to documents filed in the case: Just after 3 p.m.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. - The cries of “Anthony! Anthony!” came from law enforcement officers and volunteers walking through farm fields and wooded lots Wednesday around a rural residential strip south of East Grand Forks, searching for a lost boy. Anthony Kuznia, 11, went missing about 2 p.m. from his home.
Same-sex couples are filing for divorce in Minnesota less than a week after same-sex marriages became legal in the state. Dawn Tuckner and her former partner were married in Canada in 2004, but the partner left three years ago leaving Tuckner with their 7-year-old son, according to WCCO TV in Minneapolis. But because their marriage weren’t legal in Minnesota, they couldn’t divorce. That is until midnight Aug.
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Martin Erwin Ubert, arrested Tuesday in the July 31 hit-and-run death of a Bemidji man, fatally struck a horse with his vehicle in February and fled the scene, police said. Ubert was on probation for refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test in 2010 when he struck the horse Feb.
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A Bemidji man broke into a woman's home early Saturday, broke a towel rack in the bathroom of the master bedroom and urinated in the toilet, according to Bemidji police. Lance Francise Day, 24, was arrested not far from the home just after 5 a.m. Saturday.
FERGUS FALLS — An Otter Tail County prosecutor believes more victims may have been sexually abused by a Mille Lacs County deputy at summer camp. Aaron Heuer, 29, is accused of having sexual contact with four boys while volunteering as a fishing guide at Lutheran Island Camp near Henning in June. He is charged in Otter Tail County Court with eight counts of criminal sexual conduct. Court documents say Heuer sexually touched the boys, all between ages 8 and 10, then asked them to touch him.
