ST. PAUL -- A post-summer survey shows an upward trend of Minnesota’s tourism business, the state’s tourism promotion office said. Summer revenue was up for 42 percent of survey respondents and occupancy was up 35 percent, according to Explore Minnesota on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Meanwhile, 30 percent of respondents experienced a decrease in revenue and 31 percent said occupancy was down. The hotel and motel sector reported decreased occupancy due to significant growth of new hotel rooms in the Twin Cities area, the tourism office said in its news release.
FARGO — Law enforcement updated the public Monday, Aug. 28 on Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, whose body was found Sunday in rural Clay County. Suspects William Hoehn and Brooke Lynn Crews will appear Monday afternoon to face formal charges, Cass County State's Attorney Birch Burdick said. The couple will appear at 2 p.m. today in Cass County District Court. They will face three charges each: conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and providing false information to law enforcement, Burdick said.
Fargo - A potentially unthinkable story began to reveal itself Thursday, Aug. 24, when the investigation into the disappearance of a pregnant 22-year-old woman resulted in police finding a healthy infant at a north Fargo apartment building where the woman was last seen. The discovery of the infant, Fargo police said, was followed by the arrest of Brooke Lynn Crews, 38, and William Henry Hoehn, 32, who both lived in the same apartment building as the missing woman, Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind.
ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Supreme Court announced it will offer live streaming video of oral arguments beginning next week, when justices will hear a case the state Legislature filed against Gov. Mark Dayton after a veto of funding. In a press release, the Supreme Court said offering live video of arguments is "an effort to increase public access to the work of the state's highest court." The court will continue to post recorded video of oral arguments. Both live and recorded video can be found online by visiting www.mncourts.gov/SupremeCourt .
FARGO -- ABC announced Monday afternoon that "American Idol" wannabes can audition in the Dakotas early next month. The show will hold auditions Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Fargo and Sunday, Sept. 10, in Rapid City, S.D. The two were listed as one of four newly announced open call cities. The ttwo others were Houston and San Antonio, Texas.
BRAINERD, Minn.—A 29-year-old Baxter man was charged on 19 counts of felony possession of pornographic work involving adults engaging in sex acts with children, some of whom authorities believe are as young as 2 years old.
MILLE LACS, Minn.—A syphilis outbreak among members of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe has the Minnesota Department of Health seeking additional public health funding. In a recent news release, MDH Commissioner Dr. Ed Ehlinger reported the outbreak was among three ongoing disease outbreaks in the state driving expenditures, including outbreaks of measles and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Canadian convenience store giant Alimentation Couche-Tard has agreed to purchase Minnesota-based Holiday Stationstores, in a deal announced Monday, July 10. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Couche-Tard expects the sale to close during the fourth quarter of 2018. Couche-Tard’s agreement with Holiday includes all of the issued and outstanding shares of Holiday Stationstores and certain affiliated companies.
FARGO -- A child is hospitalized at Sanford Children’s Hospital here after being run over by a trailer in a parade in central Minnesota’s Wadena County. The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, on Highway 87 near Juniper Avenue in Menahga, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Minnesota rock hall of fame musician faces another sex charge WILLMAR, Minn. – A Willmar musician well-known for playing at area senior living and activity facilities is facing a second allegation of criminal sexual conduct. Terrance Raymond Shaw, 72, was part of the 1970s-era rock-and-roll Shaw-Allen-Shaw Band that has been inducted in the Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame.
