MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Supreme Court will have the final say over whether guardians have the legal authority to disconnect their wards from life support. The court’s announcement last week that it will review the case of Jeffers Tschumy will for the first time in nearly 30 years revisit an end-of-life issue that could affect many of the more than 12,000 Minnesotans under guardianship who don’t have health care directives.
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. -- A St. Paul man wanted on felony warrants was arrested Thursday in Cottage Grove after eluding police by breaking into a home, authorities said. Police arrested Jeramy Corwin, 28, after a foot pursuit, and he was booked into the Washington County Jail. Police said he could face charges of burglary, fleeing police and possessing marijuana, in addition to charges in connection with three outstanding warrants. The incident started when a caller told emergency dispatch Thursday that Corwin was leaving a home along the Cottage Grove-Woodbury border.
MOORHEAD – Clay County prosecutors have charged a day care owner here with endangering children at her home after allegedly taking care of them while she was drunk. According to court documents filed Thursday in Clay County District Court against day care operator Jayne Ann Cote, 54, of Moorhead, officers were dispatched about 10:42 a.m. on Oct. 2 to a home at 22740 26th St. Circle S.

TIOGA, N.D. -- Alarm bells went off for Eric Haugstad as the Tesoro official listened to the conference call from San Antonio. Crews burned oil that had pooled in a wheat field following a pipeline leak near here, but discovered more oil as they began digging to expose the pipe. “That’s when I said ‘I’ve got to go pack my bag,’ ” recalled Haugstad, who has years of experience responding to major oil spills. Haugstad is director of contingency planning and response for Tesoro.

DULUTH - A caregiver at a Duluth disability service facility has been terminated for the maltreatment of a vulnerable adult. According to a Minnesota Department of Human Services report, a staff person at Duluth Regional Care Center took about $350 from the adult after promising to use the money to purchase an ATV. The ATV eventually was received, but only after a guardian for the adult contacted law enforcement.
GRAND FORKS - The Air Force will sign a lease with Grand Forks County in December, allowing a technology park for unmanned aircraft to be built at Grand Forks Air Force Base, the state’s congressional leaders and the governor said Thursday. “The Enhanced Use Lease program will diversify the Grand Forks County employment base and provide financial and operational support to the Grand Forks Air Force Base,” Gov. Jack Dalrymple said.
