WILLMAR, Minn. – Students on a Willmar school bus escaped injury Monday afternoon when the bus they were riding home from school was involved in a four-vehicle crash. The accident happened about 3:20 p.m. on 19th Avenue. The Willmar Police Department said the accident happened while a bus, driven by Douglas C. WORTHINGTON, Minn. -- Thirteen people were thrown from a van after it slid off an icy section of Interstate 90 in southwest Minnesota and rolled. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident happened at 1:40 a.m. near Worthington. A 2003 Chevrolet Express G3500 was eastbound on Interstate 90. The driver, Altayeb Arbab-Azzein, 29, of Sioux Falls, S.D., lost control of the vehicle.

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The driver of a pickup was injured Wednesday when the vehicle rear-ended a beet truck, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened about 4 p.m. about half a mile west of Highway 75 on County Road 9. According to the Sheriff’s Office: The driver of the pickup, Kimberly Vaughan, 49, of Fertile, was extricated from her vehicle and taken to Riverview Hospital in Crookston. The driver of the beet truck, Kindra Hoffman, 24, no address available, was not injured. The crash is under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — A sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed a Beltrami County man in a standoff in June has been cleared of any criminal charges. “It is my conclusion that no criminal charges are warranted with respect to this matter,” Beltrami County Attorney Timothy Faver wrote in a letter to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. On June 26, Beltrami County sheriff’s deputies were engaged in a standoff with Miquell “Mike” Deppa, 34, north of Bemidji.

BRECKENRIDGE, Minn. – Fire destroyed a home here early Wednesday, displacing a family of five. Smoke alarms were working and the family was able to escape the blaze unharmed. The Dakotas Region of the American Red Cross is providing assistance to two adults, three children and a dog. Breckenridge Fire Chief Brian Conzemius identified the family as the Alan Comeau family of 831 11th St.
