MAHNOMEN, Minn. – A 23-year-old man was arrested for stabbing another man here Monday morning. According to the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, a 39-year-old man called police about 8 a.m. and said he had been stabbed. Alex Blue of Mahnomen was found and arrested about three blocks away from the incident, the sheriff’s office release stated. The victim was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center and then to Sanford Health in Fargo, where he is listed in stable condition. Blue is scheduled to make his first appearance in Mahnomen County District Court today.
The beleaguered moose has ambled onto Minnesota’s growing lists of troubled species, while wolves, snapping turtles and eagles — doing better than in past decades — have soared off the lists entirely. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Monday announced the final versions of newly revised lists of endangered species, threatened species and species of concern, the first major changes in 17 years. FARGO – North Dakota State starting linebacker Travis Beck pleaded guilty to resisting arrest charges in Cass County court Monday morning, a move his attorney said was designed to allow him to put this summer’s legal woes behind him without a trial interfering with the Bison football season. “Most people think resisting is fighting – you’ve seen the video,” said Beck’s defense attorney, Bruce Quick. “That’s the wrong word for this situation – what’s he’s charged with is failing to stop” when arresting officers told Beck to.
HAWLEY, Minn. – A 16-year-old from Hawley was seriously injured Monday morning after he fell asleep behind the wheel of a pickup and the vehicle left the road, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. A State Patrol report on the incident stated the crash happened about 6:48 a.m. Jordan J. Bortnem was driving westbound on Highway 10 in Hawley when he fell asleep, crossed the eastbound lanes of the highway and went off the road before striking two trees, the State Patrol said. Bortnem was alone in the vehicle, according to the report.
A 24-year-old Duluth man was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly crashing the SUV he was driving, and then stealing the vehicle of a passerby who had stopped to help. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Martin Road just north of Duluth, where a road construction project is underway. The SUV apparently was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and struck several large, concrete drain pipes stacked alongside the road awaiting installation.
