HIBBING, Minn. – A Chisholm man who admitted recording an underage girl changing clothes and posting images and video on a pornographic website will serve at least eight months in prison. Derrick Allen Mart, 24, also will be on probation for seven years, and any violations of his release could result in him being sent to prison for a full term of 2½ years. Mart pleaded guilty Oct.
MONTEVIDEO, Minn. -- Montevideo police are investigating what they are calling the suspicious death of a 64-year-old man. Thomas Dickson’s body was discovered around 10:15 p.m. Monday in his apartment. Montevideo Police Chief Adam Christopher said the investigation is continuing to take baby steps forward, but that police were not at a point where they could release information on the cause or nature of the death.
MORRIS – Morris Area High School Principal Craig Peterson has been charged with four felony counts of criminal sexual conduct after allegedly assaulting an acquaintance at his home in Morris. Peterson, 36, has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and and two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. Peterson made his first appearance in Stevens County District Court on Thursday. According to the complaint, the victim, age 30, arranged to meet Peterson at the American Legion in Morris on Saturday, Dec. 21 at about 9 p.m.

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr said Tuesday he wasn’t likely to extend the public comment period on the environmental review for the proposed PolyMet copper mine project near Hoyt Lakes. The DNR this month set a 90-day review for the project, ending March 13.
Some Minnesota court offices report hearing from the public that they received emails telling them they must appear in court. Court spokesman John Kostouros said that several counties, especially Washington, have reported people receiving emails with the title "Notice to Appear" that ask recipients to open an attachment.
DULUTH -- An Eveleth man is facing federal charges in the August robbery of a credit union in Virginia, Minn. Neiman Regis Adams, 26, already was charged in State District Court when a federal grand jury returned an indictment on a count of armed bank robbery earlier this month. Adams was arraigned in U.S. District Court on Dec. 12 in Minneapolis, entering a not guilty plea. He is scheduled to appear for a hearing Jan. 10 in Duluth, and a jury trial is scheduled for March 3. HALSTAD, Minn. – Sexual assault charges against the mayor here have been dropped after the alleged victim’s credibility was called into question. In May, Mayor Steve Sortland was accused of raping a female acquaintance, and he was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Norman County Attorney James Brue dismissed those charges Friday, citing insufficient evidence for a conviction.
One of Giovanni’s favorite holiday traditions is our Christmas morning brunch, which we host for my parents, siblings and their families. A few years ago I decided to try a recipe for an apple sausage breakfast ring that my mom has made many times to great reviews. Apple and sausage work so well together, and I thought this would be a great addition to our breakfast feast.
