BEMIDJI, Minn. - The person killed in a two-vehicle accident north of Bemidji on Monday afternoon has been identified. The Minnesota State Patrol said Kelly Olson, 32, of Bemidji, was killed in the crash. Olson was driving a 1997 Chrysler Town and Country driven and entering U.S. Highway 71 when it was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jason Stubbe, 27, of Bemidji, who was traveling south on Highway 71. Stubbe was transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center with serious injuries, the patrol said.
DALTON, Minn. – A semi driver struck a snowplow Tuesday morning on Otter Tail County Highway 82 near here, suffering a minor injury. As the snowplow driver was turning around just outside of Dalton at about 8:45 a.m., the semi driver was unable to see it because of poor visibility, according to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office report. The semi rear-ended the plow, smashing the windshield on the semi. Flying debris inside the semi gave its driver, Cody Johnson of Ashby, a minor cut on his head.
A 37-year-old Crookston man died Saturday after he was found under water in Maple Lake near Mentor, Minn. Officers from the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about an unresponive male and found Kory Stromstad submerged in a hole in the ice inside his spearfishing house just off the shore of Maple Bay, according to a news release. First responders took Stromstad to Riverview Health in Crookston where he was later pronounced dead. His body has been sent to UND for an autopsy. The invesitgation of Stromstad's death is ongoing, according to the sheriff's office.

Minnesota’s beleaguered moose herd appears to have held its own over the past year, with an aerial survey showing little change in the population. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wildlife officials conducted an aerial survey in January of several areas in the Northeastern Minnesota moose range and used those surveys to estimate a total population about 4,350 animals.
NEWPORT, Minn. -- One person died and another was in custody after a stabbing Thursday at Bailey Nurseries in Newport, police said. Authorities were called to the nursery at 3:39 p.m. Thursday on a report of a stabbing victim, Newport Police Chief Curt Montgomery said in a statement. The victim died and the suspect was in custody, Montgomery said. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that the victim was a nursery employee. ST. PAUL -- A trio of Minnesota state senators is promoting an effort to fight insurance fraud. The bill would increase fraud penalties and allow insurers and law enforcement officials to share some data in an effort to catch those running fraud schemes. One of the main provisions would go after unscrupulous billing practices. Two Democrats and a Republican are introducing the measure.
DULUTH -- A 26-year-old man whose car plunged 60 feet off a cliff near Lake Superior this week is listed in good condition at a Duluth hospital. The driver, identified as Justin Lee Pfannes, is recovering at St. Luke’s following the harrowing crash and a night outside in the freezing cold.
