CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. — Four juveniles suffered minor injuries after allegedly stealing a vehicle Tuesday in Fort Thompson and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase. A 13-year-old girl, driving a 2006 Chevrolet SUV, allegedly eluded police until the vehicle vaulted off an exit ramp, causing minor injuries for herself, a 14-year-old girl and two 10-year-old male passengers, according to Chamberlain Police Chief Joe Hutmacher.
BRAINERD, Minn. - A first-grader from Brainerd was critically injured in a crash during spring break, while on her way to Los Angeles, the child's mother said.
MANKATO, Minn. -- A 4-year-old boy has died after his clothing caught on a hook at a Mankato thrift store on Saturday, Mankato police said. Around 5:40 p.m., March 18, police and medical responders were called to the Again Thrift & More store after the boy was found unresponsive in a dressing room. While a relative was using a dressing room, the 4-year-old crawled underneath another dressing room door and once inside, had his clothing get caught on a hook, police Cmdr. Daniel Schisel said.
Rock band The Shins have been added to the summer concert series at Bluestem. The group plays the outdoor Moorhead venue on Sunday, May 21. The group made a splash in 2001 with the song "New Slang." Over the past 15 years the band, fronted by James Mercer, has released four more albums. The announcement of the show coincides with the release of the group's latest album, "Heartworms." Tickets are $27 for general admission lawn, $37 for general admission bench seats or $51.50 for reserved seats.
Kaye Paschka's floater banged in at the buzzer Tuesday to send the Alexandria Cardinals into Thursday's semifinals with a 46-44 win over Grand Rapids in the Class AAA quarterfinals of the Minnesota high school girls basketball tournament. OTTERTAIL, Minn. — Fire heavily damaged a home here Saturday night, March 11, resulting in officials calling it a complete loss, an Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department deputy reported. The homeowner, 35-year-old Cody James Dahl, has been charged with first-degree arson after the Minnesota State Fire Marshall and Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office say Dahl gathered up flammable materials in the attached garage of his home and lit them on fire around 9:40 p.m. He reportedly used a lighter and accelerant.
ST. PAUL -- A deputy commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Commerce was among several men arrested in an undercover prostitution sting in St. Paul. Police took Michael Shane Deal, 46, of Litchfield into custody on Tuesday, according to a police report. Deal, who could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday, is deputy commissioner of the state commerce department’s financial institutions division.
AVON, Minn. -- A 53-year-old Avon man was killed when authorities said he jumped onto Interstate 94 and was struck by a semi truck Wednesday morning, March 1, near Avon, the Minnesota State Patrol said. The man, later identified as Lloyd Stuart Parker, walked from his parked 2015 Hyundai on County Road 9 and jumped from the overpass and into eastbound traffic shortly before 8 a.m., patrol said.
FREEPORT, Minn. — A Freeport man rescued Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 28, from a skid loader that was submerged in an abandoned manure pit has died. According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Duane Herzog, 46, was operating a skid loader when it went through ice that was covering a manure pit on Herzog's farm site. The skid loader was completely submerged and Herzog was trapped inside for 20 minutes. Rescue personnel were able to rescue Herzog, who was transported by Life Link helicopter to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.
