PARK RAPIDS, Minn. -- A Bemidji woman was sentenced Friday to nearly five years in prison for a crash that killed a motorcyclist after she had spent the night drinking. Victoria Whitefeather, 23, told witnesses at the scene of the northern Hubbard County crash on the morning of Aug. 25 that she had "10-plus shots and eight-plus mixed drinks the evening before." Tracy Renae Childs 51, of Proctor, died on the way to the hospital, and her husband, Robert, 47, was seriously injured in the crash.
SABIN, Minn. – A Sabin man was killed and his wife was airlifted to a Fargo hospital Sunday afternoon following a train/vehicle crash just south of Sabin. According to Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist: Gloria Briden, 83, was the driver of a vehicle driving on Clay County Road 67 just south of Sabin about 1:40 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle was struck by a train traveling on Otter Tail Valley Railroad tracks.

North Dakota’s congressional delegation urged President Barack Obama to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline after the State Department released its final environmental impact statement today. “The U.S. State Department’s final EIS released today is a step forward in that it poses no reason for President Obama to deny approval of the Keystone XL pipeline project,” Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., said in a statement. “Although not explicit, this finding is consistent with four previous findings that affirm the need to begin construction without delay.” Sen.
A Thief River Falls man has been charged with electronic solicitation of children after being arrested Thursday. Marty D. Johnson, 51, was arrested in Pennington County by the Kittson County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Deputy Steve Porter said in a Kittson County sheriff’s news release. Johnson’s criminal charge could mean imprisonment for up to three years, a $5,000 fine or both, Porter said. Johnson was being held in Kittson County Jail and is expected to have his first court appearance in Hallock on Friday.
A Thief River Falls man was arrested in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Jan. 24 for an outstanding felony warrant in Red Lake County. MOORHEAD - A Moorhead man will serve no jail time for killing his infant daughter this summer after leaving her in a hot car in front of the family's apartment. Judge Steven Cahill rejected the Clay County prosecutor's request for a year in jail for Andrew John Sandstrom, who pleaded guilty to a single count of second-degree manslaughter in the death of his daughter Christiana last June. FARGO – The trial here for a Moorhead, Minn., man charged in U.S. District Court with aiding and abetting a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana came to a stop Thursday when the defendant pleaded guilty. The case against David R. Cerna Jr., 37, involved the transportation of methamphetamine from Texas to the Fargo-Moorhead area, according to a statement released by the U.S. attorney’s office in Fargo.
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A Bemidji man faces charges after being accused of soliciting prostitution at a Bemidji Walmart store. Derek Daniel Barnes, 22, is charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution and DWI. Around 4 a.m. Jan. 21, Barnes approached two female Walmart employees and offered money for sexual acts, according to court documents. Both employees are adults; one was offered $300, the other $400, authorities said.
