A Bemidji foster parent has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of 2-year-old girl who apparently drowned in a laundry tote in a shower. Nathan Daniel Jackson Sr., 38, was arrested Sunday after the Bemidji Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old at a residence at about 11:21 a.m., according to a criminal complaint from the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office.

GLYNDON, Minn.—A man is in custody following a chase that topped 130 mph in rural Clay County as he fled law enforcement officers with a toddler in the back seat of his car. Dustin Bruce Martin, 34, was arrested at his home in rural Hawley after the chase, which began in Glyndon when a police officer observed Martin speeding and crossing the center line of Highway 10 several times, said Glyndon Police Chief Mike Cline.
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — The son of a Fergus Falls man has been charged with killing his father. Dustin Defiel, 28, is charged with second-degree murder of his father, Ricardo Defiel. The Fergus Falls Police Department reports they were dispatched to the home at the 1900 block of Main Street for a shooting after Dustin Defiel's mother, Tamara, called authorities. Officers arrived and used a SWAT peacekeeper vehicle as they approached the home. Dustin Defiel had left the scene by then.

PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Transportation remind motorists to be careful of turtles crossing roads over the next several weeks as they move to familiar nesting locations. Allowing turtles to cross the roads is vital to preserving regional populations. “Many turtles and other species are killed on Minnesota roads each year, especially during the nesting season,” said Carol Hall, DNR herpetologist, “In fact, roadway mortality is believed to be a major factor in turtle population declines throughout the United States.”
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Trial dates have been set for a Baudette woman accused of stealing from a GoFundMe account she set up for three men who died in a boating accident on Lake of the Woods. Retina Reyellen LaValla, 28, was charged in February in Lake of the Woods District Court with two counts of felony theft after the Sheriff's Department said she used some of the donated money to pay for various bills and groceries.
