The BP station at Main and Highway 34 in Park Rapids was robbed at gunpoint on Friday night. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash and no injuries were reported during the incident, according to Park Rapids Police Chief Terry Eilers. The incident occurred at 7:55 p.m. and no arrests have been made yet in connection with the crime. Eilers reported the suspect was wearing a mask and carrying a large-caliber handgun at the time of the robbery. Eilers is asking residents to be on the lookout for the cash tray.

BEMIDJI—Three people were arrested Wednesday after law enforcement executed a search warrant in Walker. The Leech Lake Tribal Police Department and Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force officers executed the warrant for narcotics and weapons at a residence in Breezy Point Housing in Walker, according to a release from Leech Lake tribal police. Joshua James White, 21, was arrested on narcotics and weapon charges and Diana Michelle White, 45, was arrested on drug-related charges.
CASS LAKE Minn. — A Cass Lake teenager who started one of two northern Minnesota forest fires last May because “mosquitoes were bothering him” has been sentenced to a treatment program and ordered to pay $161,000 in restitution for the costs involved with the fire. Anthony James Wittner, 18, who was a juvenile at the time, had previously entered pleas of guilty to the felony offense of wildfire arson and misdemeanor offense of fleeing a police officer on foot, the Cass County Attorney's office reported. Wittner pleaded guilty to starting two fires near Cass Lake last May 28.
CROOKSTON, Minn. – A Crookston man is in jail, accused of threatening to kill a transgender woman. 24-year-old Tony Laird faces an assault charge and a felony terroristic threats charge. On April 21, Laird allegedly threatened the woman, saying he had guns and knives and would slash her throat or shoot her.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesota is the lone state among those in the upper Midwest to have trimmed its obesity rate in recent years, according to a Minnesota Department of Health analysis. The rate has dropped from 26 percent of the population in 2007 to about 25.5 percent in 2013, the department said, using federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics. The study also said the number of Minnesotans at a healthy weight has increased by more than 60,000 compared with 2010.

CLOUD, Minn. -- Wild turkey hunters in Kandiyohi, Pope, Meeker, Swift and Stearns counties can help determine if highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is present in Minnesota wildlife by allowing a sample to be collected from their turkeys. “HPAI has not yet been found in wild turkeys, but it has been found in domestic turkeys in these and other Minnesota counties,” said Michelle Carstensen, wildlife health program supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
