Former UND and Detroit Lakes football coach Marvin “Whitey” Helling died Sunday in Florida at the age of 91. He spent 11 seasons as the UND coach, from 1957 to 1967. He helped transform the program into a Division II national power, leading North Dakota to three North Central Conference titles and two Division II bowl game victories.
