Former UND and Detroit Lakes football coach Marvin “Whitey” Helling died Sunday in Florida at the age of 91. He spent 11 seasons as the UND coach, from 1957 to 1967. He helped transform the program into a Division II national power, leading North Dakota to three North Central Conference titles and two Division II bowl game victories. He was a 1988 inductee into the UND Athletics Letterwinners Hall of Fame as well. “The UND football family was saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Marv ‘Whitey’ Helling,” said current UND head football coach Bubba Schweigert.

WILKIN COUNTY, Minn. – A man was airlifted to a Fargo hospital following a rollover crash Monday afternoon, according to the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office. About 3 p.m., Ross Rehder was driving a pickup truck on County State Aid Highway 30 near 270th Avenue when he went off the right shoulder and lost control of the vehicle in the snow, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
