GRAND FORKS - A Windom, Minn., man was ordered Monday to serve 15 years in prison for shaking his 3-month-old son and causing him a serious head injury. Robert Allen Duckstad, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse, a Class A felony, in state district court in Grand Forks. According to the criminal complaint, Duckstad had just worked the overnight shift and was “tired, frustrated and stressed” when he returned home one morning in June 2013. His son was being “fussy” while he was changing his diaper, so Duckstad shook the infant three times until he was quiet, the complaint say
STARBUCK, Minn. — Police in west-central Minnesota are warning about potent prescription medications stolen during a pharmacy burglary last week. One overdose treated in Stevens County is reportedly connected to the stolen drugs, law enforcement officials said Tuesday. The Starbuck Police Department investigated a burglary at Samuelson’s Drug on Sept. 16.

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- A 49-year-old Grand Rapids man has been charged with giving his wife a lethal dose of the painkilling drug Fentanyl. Terry Wayne Richards was charged with third degree murder for allegedly buying the drug and giving it to his wife at their home Friday. Police were called to a medical emergency at their home at 9:48 p.m. Friday, and found a woman with no pulse. She was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
GLYNDON — The Rebels rushing attack was strong Friday night and D-G-F bounced back from a loss at home to Detroit Lakes last week with a 40-26 victory over Park Rapids Area. Alex Matthews scored four touchdowns and had 126 rushing yards to lead the Rebels, while Joe Flatt scored one touchdown and had 123 rushing yards for the Rebels. Ben Baumgartner scored two touchdowns for the Panthers. The Rebels scored 34 first half points to lead 34-19 at the half. D-G-F improves to 2-2 and 2-1 in the conference.
ST. PAUL -- The are 29 potential makers of medical marijuana vieing for the two state-approved facilities allowed by Minnesota law. The Minnesota Department of Health announced Friday that it received 29 letters of intent to apply for the state medical cannabis program. The Health Department requested letters of intent by Sept. 19 with full applications due by Oct. 3. The Health Department intends two select two applicants to become the state’s official medical cannabis manufacturers by Dec. 1.
