ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- A 12-year-old boy pulled from a St. Louis Park Middle School swimming pool Thursday after a physical education class has died, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. The newspaper quoted a statement Saturday from city spokesman Jamie Zwilling, who said the boy had died overnight. No other information was available.
MORRIS, Minn. – A 29-year-old Hancock man has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree after allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl from Alexandria. ST. PAUL - About 400 Minnesotans rallied against wolf hunting during a state Capitol event Thursday sponsored by Howling for Wolves. They argued for a temporary suspension of the wolf hunt, which is 2 years old. More than 1,000 wolves have been killed in the hunts. Howling for Wolves founder Maureen Hackett said the state should "stop the indiscriminate wolf hunting methods of baiting, trapping and snaring. Public opinion is on our side, and our goal to make sure constituent voices are heard."

FARGO – A routine traffic stop on the campus of North Dakota State University landed three students in jail facing serious drug charges. Campus police say when they pulled over a vehicle last Thursday afternoon with 19-year-olds Hunter Schleske, Austin Clem and Cody Johnson in it, they found marijuana and heroin. Police arrested all three. Schleske, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., was charged in Cass County District Court on Friday with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, a Class B felony, along with felony possession, and two misdemeanor charges. MOTLEY, Minn. -- A 36-year-old Staples woman was found dead Tuesday in the snow near an apartment complex in Motley. Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said Anna Eakle’s body was discovered around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. He said there was no indication of foul play. Motley Police Chief Brian Madison said all but the core part of her body was frozen. According to the National Weather Service, the windchill just after 8 a.m. was 29 degrees below zero. The woman was last seen by a railroad worker around 4:40 a.m.
ST. PAUL - The Senate Finance Committee Wednesday unanimously approved a House-passed bill to provide $20 million to help Minnesotans afford heat. However, the committee made two amendments, so if the Senate passes it early next week it must make another stop at the House for approval of those changes. One amendment just dealt with a couple of words, but the other was more significant because it requires no more than 5 percent of the money to go to administrative costs.
