Court documents were scheduled to be in the hands of Lake of the Woods County court officials sometime today in connection with an investigation into guided fishing operations on Lake of the Woods. According to Col. Ken Soring, enforcement chief for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, 12 people face a total of 80 charges for various violations uncovered during an investigation by 40 DNR conservation officers, who converged on the area in January.
GRAND FORKS - Four women have been arrested for allegedly making meth in a condo just across the street from Grand Forks’ Schroeder Middle School. A search of the home belonging to Kathy Joan Kielty, 56, turned up equipment used to make the drug, according to court records. She, Audrey Marie Morris, 65, Ashley Marie Brown, 24, and Tina Mae Metcalf, 51, are all charged with manufacturing meth within 1,000 feet of a school, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, the stiffest penalty under state law.
HASTINGS, Minn. -- A Farmington day care provider pleaded guilty last week to second-degree manslaughter in the 2012 death of a 3-month-old child left in her care. Kaiden Robert Staebell died July 31, 2012, after Rebecca Lynn Graupmann, 46, left him to nap on her daughter’s bed. According to a criminal complaint filed last May, Farmington police responded that day to a call of a child who had stopped breathing.

ELK RIVER, Minn. – Two Twin Cities commuter trains collided with a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, the second day in a row a train had hit a car in the Elk River area. Metro Transit said on its website that no injuries were reported. Both the northbound and southbound Northstar trains struck a vehicle north of Elk River on the northwest edge of the metro area. DULUTH, Minn. – Duluth police are seeking six men involved in a Monday evening carjacking. A 34-year-old man was pulled from his car and beaten during the incident, requiring hospitalization, police said. The man drove up to a friend’s residence shortly after 9 p.m. when six men came out of the residence and approached the car.
HERMANTOWN, Minn. - A 28-year-old Hermantown man died Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle. Hermantown police said the accident was reported just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday. The victim, identified Monday as Jeremy Jacob Reeves, was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, where we was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m. The 56-year-old woman driving the vehicle, and a 22-year-old woman who was a passenger, were not injured. Hermantown police said alcohol, weather and road conditions did not appear to be factors in the crash.
