ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - An armed robbery and assault was reported here Sunday night at a Subway restaurant. At around 8:30 p.m., an unknown white male entered the back door of Subway brandishing what appeared to be a handgun, according to the Alexandria Police Department. The suspect, at gunpoint, ordered the employee who was working to open the till and remove the cash.
ST. PAUL – President Barack Obama will visit St. Paul Wednesday, not Minneapolis like the White House earlier announced. Obama plans to announce “a new competition encouraging investments to create jobs and restore infrastructure as part of the President’s Year of Action,” a Sunday White House announcement said. MORRIS, Minn. -- A deputy shot a man early Saturday in rural Swift County after an armed robbery in Morris. Shortly before 1 a.m., officers with the Swift County Sheriff’s Office and the Appleton Police Department stopped a vehicle matching the description of one involved in the robbery, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Sign magnate Harold Newman, who painted signs in a garage before turning his venture into a multimillion-dollar company, died Thursday at his Jamestown home. He was 80 years old. “We’re very sad, and surprised,” said his daughter, Kari Newman Ness. “We expected to have him with us for many more years.
