WILLMAR, Minn. - The man killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday just east of Willmar was Steven Joseph Szalma, 38, of Kandiyohi. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office released the man's name Monday in a news release. Szalma was the driver of one of the vehicles. The sheriff's office had not yet released the names of anyone else involved. The sheriff’s office was called at 12:46 p.m. Saturday to a collision of two trucks near Willmar.
EMBARRASS, Minn. — For 25 years, the first person to record this city’s temperatures as the nation’s cold spot, as it bills itself, has been Roland Fowler. He’s the official National Weather Service recorder here and has a feeling that this year, a new state record low could be set. WASECA, Minn. - A southern Minnesota farmer who became speaker of the state House died Sunday in his hometown of Waseca. Rod Searle, 93, served in the House from 1957 to 1981. He also was president of the Minnesota State University System for a time. DILWORTH – The former fire chief here faces felony charges after allegedly threatening to burn down the houses of his co-workers, according to a WDAY-TV report. Kurt Kennedy, 49, was charged in a Clay County District Court complaint summons Friday with one felony count of making terroristic threats. Kennedy, who had been a member of the fire department since before 1999, was fire chief in Dilworth until October.

A federal agency issued a safety alert today on Bakken crude oil, warning emergency responders, the public and others that the light, sweet crude may be more flammable than traditional heavy crude oil.
