Gov. Jack Dalrymple said he has asked the North Dakota National Guard for support in responding to law enforcement efforts at the Dakota Access Pipeline protest site south of Mandan. The announcement came during a news conference Thursday, Sept. 8.
A Mahnomen man was seriously injured Thursday morning, Sept. 8, when the pickup he was driving veered off Highway 59 south of Mahnomen and struck a tree. According to a report released by the Minnesota State Patrol: The crash happened about 6:55 a.m. when a pickup driven by Gordon A. Peterson, 78, of Mahnomen, was northbound on Highway 59 about a mile south of Mahnomen. The pickup left the road and ended up striking a tree. Peterson was in critical condition when he was airlifted to Sanford Medical Center with serious injuries, the State Patrol said.

A Ponsford man made his first court appearance in Becker County District Court on allegations that he stole a substantial amount of guns and other big items from a house he's accused of breaking into. Delarey Allen Basswood, 21, is facing first degree burglary charges after police received the call on Aug. 28.

A Stanton, N.D. man has been sentenced for fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. Jordan Allen Duke, 24, was arrested May 8 after an officer clocked him going 58 miles per hour in a 40 mile an hour road construction zone on Highway 34.
A Frazee man has been charged with felony criminal sexual conduct with an underage Detroit Lakes girl. Austin Michael LaFriniere, 18, was arrested after police received a phone call from his ex-girlfriend on Aug. 22. According to the complaint filed with Becker County District Court, the woman told deputies that she and LaFriniere had been arguing because she had reportedly found out LaFriniere had engaged in sex with a 14 year old girl the night before, telling police he had admitted as such to her.
A Princeton, Minn. man has been sentenced for selling a large amount of meth in Becker County. Marvin Ray Hanson Jr., 58, was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison after being arrested earlier this spring. According to the complaint filed with Becker County District Court, a special agent in Becker County met with what they refer to as a "cooperating individual" who indicated they were expecting a delivery of one ounce of meth from a person they knew as "Marv".

Enbridge announced late Thursday it plans to suspend the Sandpiper Pipeline, citing changes in market conditions and Minnesota regulatory delays that prompted customers to invest in a different pipeline. Enbridge Energy Partners will withdraw applications pending with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and shelve the Sandpiper until North Dakota oil production recovers from the recent slowdown.
