A Frazee man was injured Wednesday evening after his pickup truck clipped the rear end of a car parked on the shoulder of Highway 87, went into the ditch, and rolled. The 1998 Chevrolet pickup was driven by Chad A. Englehart, 31, who suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol. He was transported by St. Mary's Ambulance to St. Mary's Innovis Hospital in Detroit Lakes. The pickup clipped a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville that was stopped on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 87. School supporters cheered like they'd just won the state football championship Tuesday after learning that voters in the Lake Park-Audubon School District had overwhelmingly voted "yes" Tuesday on a $21.1 million school construction bond. The cheers in the Audubon Elementary School gymnasium turned to hugs, handshakes and high fives after Board Chairwoman Vicky Grondahl announced the vote total: 1,538 "yes" votes to 1,018 "no" votes.

There's a new gas station/convenience store on North Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes, and it's also going to be home to Tires Plus, which is moving from its Highway 10 location. Tires Plus will open in its new location at 7:30 a.m. Monday and Dino Mart will open at 6 a.m. Tuesday in the former Grover-Lindberg gas station/tire center across from DL Newspapers office. Dino Mart, a Sinclair-branded station, will offer a set of full-service gas pumps with attendants, and will also offer self-service pumps.
Pamphlets and newspaper commentary by opponents of the proposed school building bond in Lake Park-Audubon have been giving public officials fits. The amount of misinformation being put out is getting ridiculous -- worse than previous referendum campaigns, said LP-A Superintendent Dale Hogie. Becker County Auditor-Treasurer Ryan Tangen is unhappy with a recent pamphlet that attributes information to "the Becker County Auditor" when it didn't actually come from him. Three people were injured in a broadside accident Friday afternoon on Highway 10 near Frazee. According to the State Patrol, a 1993 GMC Suburban, stopped at a stop sign on County Road 10 on the west edge of Frazee, pulled out in front of a 2000 Dodge Caravan that was westbound on Highway 10. The Suburban was driven by Nathan W. Lacey, 18, of Frazee, who suffered no apparent injuries, according to the State Patrol. The Caravan was driven by Robert A, Lind, 50, of Perham. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, as did two passengers in his vehicle, Mariann I.
Filing for elective offices opens Tuesday and closes June 1 at the Becker County Auditor-Treasurer's Office in the Courthouse. County positions Becker County positions up for election this year are: Commissioner Districts 2 and 4, currently held by District 2 Commissioner Harry Salminen and District 4 Commissioner John Bellefeuille. Salminen has said he will retire from the board.

With sandbags protecting Highway 10 from the lapping waters of Boyer Lake, the Buffalo-Red River Watershed is moving fast to build an outlet. The lake, which has been rising for years, is located about two miles east of Lake Park.
