Steve Martin, Martin Short coming to Bluestem MOORHEAD — It's no joke — Steve Martin and Martin Short will bring their mix of stand-up comedy and music to Bluestem Amphitheater on June 7, 2019. Martin and Short first paired up in the 1986 comedy "The Three Amigos," and appeared together five years later in "Father of the Bride" and the 1995 sequel. A recording of their first tour, "An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life," was released on Netflix.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed zebra mussels in Walker Lake, connected and navigable to Ottertail Lake in Otter Tail County. Zebra mussels were confirmed in Ottertail Lake in August of 2016. A lake property owner contacted the DNR after finding five adult zebra mussels on an irrigation intake while removing it for the season. DNR invasive species staff found more zebra mussels on other equipment in the same area of the lake and where Walker Lake outlets into Ottertail Lake.
A Staples man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday in Henning. Joseph Maurice Nanik, 55, of Staples suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. He was a passenger in a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by Timothy Joel Voeltz, 56, of Staples, who suffered no apparent injuries.
A Vergas man was injured Thursday when the cargo van he was driving left the roadway and rolled into the ditch. Todd Vincent Sandahl, 60 of Vergas was taken to the Perham hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. No alcohol was involved.
Wesley Robert Warren, 20, of rural Ponsford, has been charged in Becker County District Court with two felony counts of domestic assault. According to court records, at 7:29 a.m. Aug. 2, White Earth tribal police officers were dispatched to a Ponsford residence on the report of a domestic assault. A woman there said Warren had punched her above the right eye, knocking her down, then punching and kicking her multiple times. A witness stopped the assault, she said. She has been living with him the past three months and they are related by blood.
Freddie Cisneros Jr., 28, of Thief River Falls, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime. According to court records, about 11:20 a.m. on March 18, 2017, a trooper pulled over the vehicle he was riding in on Highway 59 in Becker County for possible illegally-tinted windows. A check of the driver's side window with a tint meter showed the tint was 15 percent, which is below Minnesota's legal threshold of 50 percent light transmittal.
Leonard Joseph Smith, 38, of rural Ponsford, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. According to court records, on April 13, 2017, a White Earth tribal police investigator received a report that a girl had been sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by a man who called himself "Joe Frog," later identified as Smith. The last incident allegedly occurred in October of 2016 when the girl was 16. He was allegedly involved in selling illegal drugs and she was heavily dependent on drugs at the time.
Matthew Michael Gibson, 18, and Morgan Elizabeth Marie Anderson, 19, both of rural Osage, have each been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime. According to court records, on Sept. 12, agents with the West Central Minnesota Drug and Violent Crime Task Force executed a search warrant at a trailer house at a residence shared by Gibson and Anderson, and allegedly found 616 grams of marijuana and 338 grams of butane hash oil.
Motorists on Highway 10 near Lake Park will encounter 10–15-minute delays today, Oct. 9, between noon and 2 p.m., while crews install the traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 7. Minnesota State Patrol will assist with traffic control.
Arlan Ray Bergstrom Jr., 25, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced to prison for separate instances of domestic assault and leading police on a high-speed chase. He was charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault and felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. Felony charges of making threats of violence and violating a restraining order were dismissed in a plea agreement.
