The Fergus Falls Hurricanes jumped ahead early and held on by the skin of their teeth, earning a 4-3 victory over the Hadley Buttermakers in the Class C Baseball Tournament at Green Isle on Aug. 26. However, luck wasn’t on the side of the Midway Snurdbirds as their bid for a Class C Championship came to a halt when they were defeated, 6-4, by the Faribault Lakers on Aug. 26 in Green Isle.

Team Zorbaz captured the Women’s softball championship Tuesday, Aug. 22 defeating Noah’s Insurance in a wild 22-21 game. Zorbaz handed Noah’s Insurance their only loss of the season with the victory.
The Detroit Lakes/Callaway softball team won the championship of the upper division of the Seniors Softball Tournament held at Snappy Park August 21-22. The annual event is hosted by a group from Winnipeg, Manitoba, which brought three full bus loads of players, fans, umpires and organizers from Canada to play softball against teams in the lakes area.
The New York Mills Millers from Region 14C and Pelican Rapids Lakers from 16C were both eliminated in the opening round of the Minnesota Baseball Association Class C tournament last weekend. The Millers were shutout in eight innings 11-0 by Carver Friday in Hamburg. The Black Sox were making their first appearance in the state tournament since 1983, while the Millers made their second consecutive appearance and seventh overall.
PGA Tour golfer Tom Hoge is scheduled to return to his hometown of Fargo Aug. 25-27 and golf in the Bobcat North Dakota State Open at the Fargo Country Club. Hoge, a Fargo South High School graduate who golf at Texas Christian University, currently ranks 163rd in the FedEx Cup standings, has produced two top 10 finishes this season and has earned $373,092 this season.

Free introductions to the game of Pickleball are scheduled for the next two Saturdays. Paddles and balls are provided. The Pickleball courts are inside the hockey boards at People’s Park. Attendees are asked to park on Rossman Avenue or north of the Farmer’s Market. Lessons are available Saturday, Aug. 19 and 26 from 9-10 a.m.
For the second consecutive year, Tucker Hibbert and his team of loyal fans, friends and family participated in the Walk for Wishes® event in Minneapolis to support and celebrate the mission of Make-A-Wish® Minnesota. Hibbert’s Team 68 took home top fundraising honors, helping the organization exceed its goal of raising over $92,000 to fund the wishes of children diagnosed with critical illnesses.
