A barrage of three-pointers broke open a close game and led Detroit Lakes to a 75-56 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Friday night at the Area High School gym. The Lakers led 27-20 with 1:27 to play in the first half before eight 3-pointers sparked a 31-13 run that pushed the lead to 58-33 with 9:32 remaining as Detroit Lakes remained undefeated in conference play. Three-pointers by Charity Ridlon and Katie Klein gave the Panthers an 8-6 lead with 12:57 to play in the first half before Detroit Lakes responded with a 10-1 run to take the lead for good.
The Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team picked up its first Mid-State Conference win of the season, but couldn't pick up its first Section 8A victory after splitting games last week.
