Boys basketball: Detroit Lakes breaks out against 18th-ranked Thief River Falls

Thursday night was a long time coming for the Detroit Lakes boys basketball team as they rolled over the 18th-ranked team in Class AA 95-64.

The Lakers (2-7) knocked off Thief River Falls (7-2) behind big scoring nights from Mason Carrier, Nate Cihak and Brandton Marsh. Carrier led Detroit Lakes in scoring with 24 points. He added eight rebounds, six assists and three steals to his resume.

Cihak had one of his best shooting days from the field. He went 7-of-9 shooting and 5-for-5 at the free-throw line for 22 points. He also had five assists and four rebounds. Marsh put up 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed four rebounds.

The Lakers snapped their seven-game skid dating back to a season-opening win over Barnesville on Dec. 3.
