Boys swimming and diving: Lakers compete in West fargo

The Detroit Lakes swimming and diving team took 13th place at West Fargo’s ND-MN Boys Border Battle 2022 on Saturday in a 15-team field.

John Gulon notched the line top-10 finish with a sixth-place backstroke time of 59.12. He also swam in the 200-yard IM to a time of 2:23.52, which was good for 15th place.

Gulon swam in two top-15 relays for the Lakers as well. The team of Micah Barberg, Ryan Erickson, Gulon and Zane Roberts took 11th in the 200-yard medley relay. The same four took 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.35.

Lane Yliniemi was the best diver for the Lakers, with a team-high score of 147.35. Neil Trowbridge (141.55) and Brain Morrison (126.7) weren’t far behind in 19th and 22nd.
