The Speakeasy in Detroit Lakes has sold after just a few short weeks on the market.
Jack Chivers, who handled both ends of the sale, confirmed Tuesday that a buyer by the name of Tyler Brandt purchased the business. He plans to lease it to another entity, the Spitfire Bar & Grill, an American eatery offering BBQ and wood-grilled meats that is based in Fargo.
The new owners will close on the purchase of the business March 15, but they reportedly plan to take their time turning it around. They're hoping to renovate and train their employees, many of whom will be retained during the ownership switch. The whole process could take up to six months.
Michael Mercil, the owner of the Speakeasy put the business up for sale in mid-January after a 16-year run in Detroit Lakes. He told the Tribune back in January that it would be difficult when an offer came in, but he plans to move to the Twin Cities and start "a new chapter" in his life.
