"Most people know why they should exercise and where, but they don't know how," Dean Windel, owner of Snap Fitness said. "We take that frustration away by offering convenient, straightforward services."

A Snap Fitness franchise is set to open on July 1 in Detroit Lakes' McKinley Plaza on Holmes street after a soft opening on June 22.

Windel received his bachelor's degree in exercise science, taught elementary physical education at Lincoln Elementary in Detroit Lakes, and was an exercise specialist for ten years. He previously operated a Snap Fitness in Rapid City, South Dakota for four years where he would offer free training assistance.

"I like to work with people who have absolutely no idea what they're doing," Windel said. "I want to inform and give people the tools they need."

Snap Fitness is an all hours facility and rarely closes. According to Windel, quite a few people stop in around 3 a.m. to fit in a workout session.

"No time constraints, no holiday hours, no more excuses," he said. "We owe it to our personal wellness."

Epic Management owns the building that is now leasing the ground level 3,200 square foot space to Dean Windel.

"It's a small space, but we have something for everyone," he said.

The facility will house full showers, locker rooms, treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, rollers, resistance weights and a free weight room. In addition, there will be five 55-inch flat screen televisions.

It is an ideal set up for people who enjoy working out individually. Windel said that he would like to eventually offer boot camp training for anyone interested, and tanning beds are also a possibility in the future.

Windel wants to offer personal training in addition to online resources offered by Snap Fitness.

Snap Fitness is a 24/7 fitness facility with 2,000 locations across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia. Memberships allow access to any of their facilities.

Epic Management owns several mixed-use buildings that are popping up in the region, with commercial properties on the main level and apartments on the upper levels.

McKinley Plaza opened August of 2016 on Holmes Street. The building has underground parking on the lower level, commercial properties like Dairy Queen and Snap Fitness on the main level, while floors two, three and four have residential units.

One of their up and coming properties is Block E in Moorhead, Minnesota which will soon house Usher's restaurant, according to marketing director McKenzy Olson.

They had hoped for an earlier open of Snap Fitness, but they had some minor setbacks. "They had to remove the windows to get the showers inside," Olson said.

She said that they're excited about their new commercial tenant, adding that the addition of Snap Fitness to the facility will provide a workout facility on-site to commercial and residential tenants also providing a convenient option for community members.

"Exercise has always been a part of my life on a personal level," Windel said. "I can show you enough things where you can work your way through the gym comfortably."
