The Pelican Rapids Pool Committee received a $500,000 donation from someone who grew up in the area but preferred to stay anonymous, according to a news release. This was accompanied by a pledge of an additional $500,000 in matching funds to match other local donations.
The committee is raising money to build a new pool as the old one was built in 1978 and has deteriorated to a point that it is no longer reparable, according to the release. The new pool will be in the same location and feature a water slide, lazy river, splash pad and zero-depth entry. It will cost $3.7 million to build and $1.7 million is already raised, according to the release.
