Right when customers walk through the doors of Studio 59, they're relaxed by the soothing aromas and welcoming ambience.
When Elise Pederson decided to open a beauty salon in Detroit Lakes, she made sure it was a calming and relaxing atmosphere.
Studio 59 is now open on Highway 59 in the Jack Chivers strip mall, with services offered in haircuts, color and facial wax.
Pederson is a licensed beauty technician who previously worked in Fargo, N.D., before moving to Detroit Lakes about four years ago.
"You have to take a chance in life or you'll always wonder what if," she said of opening the salon.

Pederson purchased the space in September but the process of getting her salon license was lengthy. She finally opened the salon this month.
Studio 59 has three rental booths. So far one is run by Pederson and the second by Shawna Wilson. Their motto is "Beauty is an experience, capture it."
Wilson said she picked Studio 59 as a place to work for many reasons. But as soon as she met Pederson, she said the two "just clicked. It's a super beautiful place to work."
In addition to hair services, Studio 59 has a boutique full of jewelry, accessories and beauty products that will make the salon a one-stop shop for the upcoming prom season.
Although she has her regular clients, Pederson makes sure that new faces return.
"The way you treat them, you give them an experience they won't forget," she said.
Pederson hopes to expand her business in the future to offer manicures, pedicures and massages.
"I want to start small and grow big," she said.
