Downtown Detroit Lakes is now home to an American buffet.
Lakes Country Buffet, located on the corner of Washington Avenue and Willow Street, opened their doors to the hungry public Feb. 19.
Owner, Ricky Green, says they've since been doing a little "dry run."
"We got the equipment in, got everything working, some employees, and starting kind of testing out the food to see what customers like," Green said.
The American-style food includes chicken, ribs, roast beef, four kinds of potatoes, salad bar, soups, desserts, coffee/espresso, and ice cream.

Green said since the city already had two Chinese buffets, he figured it was time to try American.
"It's been since 2001 that the town has had an American buffet, so I thought, 'hey, I already have a great lot here by the lake. Let's try it.'"
Green already had the building leased because he was helping to run the Cakes-n-Cream Bakery that closed in November.
He said the town probably already had too many bakeries, but he has high hopes for the buffet.
"I haven't even done any advertising yet. I just put the sign up, opened the door, and we're already doing great."
Not only does Green do all the cooking for his restaurant, he also cooks for Castle Rocks Supper Club in Hawley.
He is no stranger to the restaurant business.
Green owned The Becker in Detroit Lakes (most recently the 719 Grill) for a year and a half.

He also owned the Corner Bar in Frazee for a while, as well as the Spare Time Bar and Grill in Perham (now the Cactus).
Green says he likes owning businesses in Detroit Lakes because of all the action going on in the city.
"There's always something going on. The city does a great job supporting the businesses here."
Lakes Country Buffet is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
