Shoppers at the Washington Square Mall may have noticed a new, large kiosk in the southeast end of the building. Jack Chivers Realty has set up the kiosk, which will be staffed by an agent during lunch hours Monday through Friday. “This is our way of growing our local presence and availability to our clients,” said Dirk Ockhardt, broker and president of Jack Chivers Realty. Ockhardt says the agents will be there representing their listing clients and showcasing the real estate properties that are currently for sale. “It’s only been up and running for four weeks, and gosh, it has been successful,” said Ockhardt, who says buyers and new clients approach the agents at the kiosk all the time now.
Although he says the internet is a valuable tool in the real estate business, having their agents out and among the community allows a more interpersonal relationship that the internet cannot provide, said Ockhardt. “When it comes down to a showing or asking questions, it’s personal,” said Ockhard. “It’s a major event, and it has a lot to do with trust. This kiosk is an important way for us to connect with the local community.” The kiosk is located just outside of LaBarista in the mall. Ockhard says JCR has increased sales by 20 percent since 2013, and expects the kiosk to continue contributing to an increase for 2014 as well.
