Support the Detroit Lakes business community, register for prizes and celebrate the season! Those are the three key components of Detroit Lakes Newspapers' "12 Days of Giving" promotion, which runs from now through Wednesday, Dec. 16.

“We had to really put our thinking caps on to figure out a way to do a successful shop local promotion this year,” says Melissa Swenson, publisher and advertising manager at DL Newspapers. “The ripple effect of this pandemic has been felt far and wide and it has significantly affected the business community. Our goal was to create an event that would promote local businesses, giveaway prize packages consisting of gift cards from our business partners, and have fun while doing so!”

“Part of the fun this year is the extra entry options," she continued. "If you have something nice that you want to share about one of the businesses or sponsors, click the box and add your comments... bam! That’s two extra entries! You can also upload a photo of yourself shopping at one of participating businesses... that’s another three entries!”

It’s easy to register for prizes, simply click on this link and sign up. Each day, beginning today (Wednesday, Dec. 2), there will be drawings for four $100 prize packages. Winners will be notified by email and announced daily. On Dec. 17, there will be a drawing for the last $100 prize package and four $600 prize packages! What a great opportunity to treat yourself, or to finish up your Christmas shopping — all while shopping locally!

“This promotion would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors," Swenson said. "Bremer Bank, Midwest Bank, and Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation, have all donated to help support the local business community. They didn’t even hesitate when asked. They know that a thriving business community is part of a healthy community and they are doing their part to give back. We can’t thank them enough!”
