It was the passing of an era this past Tuesday afternoon.
That was when one of the last Oldsmobile signs in the country came down, effectively removing the iconic American car brand from Nereson's as well as the Detroit Lakes area landscape.
Nereson's had sold Oldsmobile since 1968. Currently the local automotive dealership carries JEEP, Cadillac, and Chevrolet.
Known for its innovative products such as the V8 engine, automatic transmission and front wheel drive, Oldsmobile was founded in 1897 by Ransom E. Olds as the Olds Motor Vehicle Co. in Lansing, Mich. and became part of GM in 1908.
In 2000, General Motors announced a broad restructuring plan, which in addition to lay offs called for the company to phase out its Oldsmobile division, America's oldest car brand.

Indigo Signworks was charged with the job of removing the sign and replacing new ones at Nereson's.
