The Detroit Lakes Perkins Restaurant and Bakery has shut its doors for good.
The restaurant, at 990 U.S. Highway 10, closed permanently on Sunday, Oct. 20. A sign posted on Perkins' door confirmed the closure Monday.
"We regret to announce that this Perkins Restaurant has closed," the sign read. "We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your loyalty and patronage over the years."
The Detroit Lakes Perkins was one of several that were closed Sunday. The closed locations have been taken off of the "find a Perkins near you" map on the Perkins website.
"Yesterday we took the difficult step to close several Perkins Restaurant & Bakery units," Jim Frank, COO of Perkins wrote in an email. "There were 11 closures in six states. These were all restaurants whose sales decline over the years and high operating costs made it untenable to remain open."
"We are so grateful for the dedicated service of our Perkins team members in these restaurants," Frank's statement said. "We are also very grateful to these communities we've served and appreciate our customers' continued loyalty."
It is unclear how many were employed at the Detroit Lakes' restaurant. Attempts to reach someone at the local Perkins were unsuccessful.
Perkins' parent company, Perkins & Marie Callender LLC, filed for bankruptcy Aug. 5. Frank's statement confirmed that and shared that as a result of the new ownership of Huddle House post-bankruptcy, Perkins intends to grow and develop in certain markets.
