Wadena Hide and Fur has begun an 8-10 week construction project on their U.S. Highway 10 facility in Wadena.
The business, which was started in 1946, is owned by Tom and Rich Paper. The Papers buy scrap iron, metals, pop cans, new steel and offer roll-off container services.
Along with replacing the existing office facility, which was damaged in the 2010 tornado, Wadena Hide and Fur will be putting in a 70-foot certified truck scale.
The EF4 tornado that hit Wadena in June 2010 went right over the Wadena Hide and Fur business complex. The Papers replaced warehouses last year and will complete it this fall with the new office complex and scale construction.
Business hours will remain the same but some delays in service are anticipated.

The location of Wadena Hide and Fur along U.S. Highway 10 is a convenient one for its patrons and for the business itself, which ships scrap metal by rail on the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe rail line which is immediately behind the property.
The city of Wadena has been interested in the expansion of U.S. Highway 10 from a two-lane highway to a four-lane highway for many years but the Papers have no evidence that such a project is in the works. The project, if launched, would directly affect Wadena Hide and Fur.
"We've wanted to do this for years and we have been putting it off because of the uncertainty of the Highway 10 project," Tom Paper said. "We've talked to MnDOT and they've never had a plan."
