Several area students named to dean's list at UMD

DULUTH — The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) has named several lakes area students to its dean's list for spring semester 2019.

Among those honored for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester are the following:

From Audubon: Cherish E. Johnson, sophomore, Swenson College of Science and Engineering (SCSE).

From Detroit Lakes: Kjersten A. Anderson, senior, Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE); Quinn A Bakken, senior, SCSE; Sadie D. Boeckel, senior, LSBE; Rachel V. Detroit Lakes student earns academic honors from Carleton College

NORTHFIELD — Randa Larsen of Detroit Lakes was recognized AT Carleton College's Honors Convocation on May 31.

She received the Rachel Rosenfeld Prize for Excellence in Sociology and Anthropology. A cherished Carleton tradition, Honors Convocation draws the campus community together to celebrate the academic accomplishments of Carleton students and faculty.

The event begins and ends with a full academic procession, including faculty emeriti, honors students, and recipients of awards and grants.

Larsen graduated from Carleton at the end of spring semester 2019 with a degree in sociology/anthropology, women's and gender studies.



Area students graduate from Concordia College

MOORHEAD — Several local students were among those receiving degrees from Concordia College, Moorhead, during its spring commencement exercises in May.

Among them were the following:

  • Anika Bohmer, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in global studies and a minor in English.
  • Brianna Borah, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in art.

  • Ryan Cihak, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in elementary education.

  • Kennedy Erickson, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in psychology and sociology (double major).

  • Katrina Heyer, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in chemistry and a minor in Spanish.

  • Parker Jackson, Detroit Lakes, graduated cum laude with a degree in exercise science and a minor in psychology.
  • Jade Jasken, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in nursing.
  • Trey Lyngaas, Detroit Lakes, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology and minor in psychology.
  • Erica Nelson, Detroit Lakes, graduated cum laude with a degree in art and minors in both Norwegian and business.
  • Nicholas Nordmark, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in finance and a minor in English.
  • Charlotte Olson, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in communication studies and minors in both business and art.
  • Jocelyn Skoda, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in social work with a minor in English writing.
  • Josi Tappe, Detroit Lakes, graduated with a degree in physical education and health education (double major).
  • Alexa Herfindahl, Lake Park, graduated wth a degree in nursing.
  • Jordan Spaeth, Waubun, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in elementary education.
