Manna Food Co-op, on the north side of Detroit Lakes, is not only a place to find fresh, local tomatoes and organic foods, but also education and activities to help you adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Starting this summer, the co-op embarked on the Eat Fresh of the Northside initiative and part of that effort was partnering with local wellness experts. One such passionate educator is Kelsey Juhnke, a local health coach.

This summer Kelsey has taught about juicing, healthy treats, and summer grilling. This Friday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 6 p.m., Kelsey will be teaching a class about health back to school snacks and food preparation. For all parents dreading a return to lunchboxes, this may be the opportunity you need to get some fresh ideas.

The class is free and hosted at the Manna Food Co-op deli. This offering will be followed by a Freezer Meal Prep class on Friday, Sept. 13, also at 5 p.m.

In addition to the classes, Kelsey has also started a community walking program at Manna. Every Tuesday at 5 p.m., anybody interested in joining is invited to meet up at Manna for a walk together in the neighborhood. This is a great opportunity to not only get your exercise in for the day, but also a time to meet others in the community and explore some sites on the north side.
